Allan Aloysius Ssewanyana aka Omusajja wa Bwiino is a Ugandan politician, human resource manager and sports journalist.
Ssewanyana is the current Member of Parliament representing Makindye West Division on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket the leading opposition political party in Uganda.
Work and Experience
Hon Allan Ssewanyana is the former LCV Councilor for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), former sports analyst and editor at Nile Broadcasting Services (NBS) TV hosting the daily lunchtime sports program and sports journalist at Top Radio 89.6FM, a career he began after completing his A’ Level studies in 2005.
He’s also a former sports columnist for Ennyanda sports newspaper which he joined in 2014, a member of the board of directors for the Uganda Premier League, 2012-2015 and a former board vice-chairperson for KCCA FC.
Ssewanyana is also the co-owner and current Chairperson of Katwe United FC. He played football at the National League level for Top TV FC from 2001-2004 the time he got a fracture on the collar bone, an injury that ended his football career.
Early Life and Education
Allan Ssewanyana was born on 26 November 1986 in Nsambya Hospital to Aloysius and Sarah Ssendawula in Kibuye, a Kampala City suburb and the third born to a family of seven, two boys and three girls.
Ssewanyana attended Nakivubo Blue Primary School located in the heart of Kampala City obtaining his Primary Leaving Education (PLE) in 1998 and here he served as a sports prefect.
Thereafter, Ssewanyana joined St. Mathias Kalemba Senior Secondary School Nazigo in Kayunga District for his O’ Level education obtaining his certificate in 2002 and then Mengo Senior School for his A’ Level education, attaining his certification in 2005.
At St. Kalemba, Ssewanyana served as a sports minister and as a head prefect at Mengo Senior School.
Later, Ssewanyana got admitted to Makerere University from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Resource Management in 2008. At Makerere University Ssewanyana served as a student leader and a member of the guild representative council (GRC).
Politics
Hon Allan Ssewanyana joined elective politics in 2011 on the Democratic Party ticket as the LCV Councilor for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) representing Makindye West Constituency till 2016.
Then in 2016, Sewanyana was voted Member of Parliament representing the same constituency in the 10th Parliament.
In the 10th Parliament, Ssewanyana served on the Committee of Education & Sports, the Committee on Equal Opportunities and the Shadow Minister for Sports in the shadow cabinet.
Allan Ssewanyana was among the MPs who worked against the constitutional amendment that opted to remove article 102b of the 1995 Constitution (the Age Limit Bill).

Crime
Allan Ssewanyana is currently in prison following a conviction on murder charges connected to the Masaka killings of people using machetes together with Hon Muhammad Ssegirinya of Kawempe North Constituency.
The duos were charged with murder and terrorism in September 2021at Masaka Magistrate Court following their arrest on September 7th and remanded to Kigo prison.
Later, Ssewanyana was released on bail, but he was rearrested shortly outside Kigo prison to answer more charges against him.
Allan Ssewanyana was arrested for inciting violence in 2017 during the Constitutional Amendment bill of Article 102b period (the Age Limit Bill).
Ssewanyana also led a protest to shutdown Kiruddu Hospital over poor sewage management; however, his move was intercepted by police claiming the legislator did not seek permission to hold the demonstration.
