Controversies

david kabanda biography

David Kabanda is an outspoken and controversial NRM MP who has landed himself in several controversial circumstances due to his outspoken nature.

Before Kabanda was chosen to represent Kasambya in May 2020, Ateenyi asserted that Francis Zaake Butebi, a councillor for Mityana Municipality, had not been tortured.

When Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of the House at the time, asked the Minister of Internal Affairs to explain why Zaake had been tortured, Kabanda resorted to Twitter to claim that Zaake had not been subjected to torture and that he had only been seeking sympathy from donors and attention.

As a result, NUP fans erupted and viciously attacked him.

Hon David Kabanda appeared in March 2022 to threaten Galaxy FM radio presenter and comedian Emeka. Kabanda stated that he would have revenge on the comedian via his girlfriend. Kabanda had accused Buganda Kingdom of openly supporting NUP, which sparked their feud.

According to Kabanda, the Kingdom should not engage in politics if it knows that all Baganda in various political parties are its subjects.

Emeka responded to the tweet by telling him to stop attacking the NUP. Kabanda, according to the comedian, was always making noise for NUP instead of performing his legislative duties.

Next, Emeka told Kabanda to stop sending him people with threatening messages and that they should meet at the airport and handle it, man, to man since he was out of the country by that time, to which Kabanda replied “You’ll find me in Ntinda at your girlfriend’s shop because that’s where you spend the majority of your time helping her clients.”

He went ahead to say, “I will exact my vengeance on your girlfriend; I know she wants to be National Female Youth MP in 2026.”

David Kabanda revealed that newly re-appointed Residence District Commissioners (RDCs) bribed the Ministry of Presidency to keep their positions. According to Kabanda, each person was supposed to pay 20 million, and those who failed to do so lost their positions.

The Minister for Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda afterwards reprimanded Kabanda for the shameful tweet in which he claimed her ministry sought bribes to keep Resident District Commissioners (RDCs).

She added that the MP was being used by the mafia. However, later, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni appointed and re-appointed RDCs and deputies.

Kabanda also posted on his Twitter account that “I love her and it’s the beginning of everything” with a photo of Doreen Nyanjura from Tooro, a youthful political ally of the opposition leader, Dr Kizza Besigye

However, she rejected the proposal saying that she had missed that declaration and was wondering if that was called falling in love with the wrong person.

David Kabanda was ranked first on a list that was alleged of a group of young people President Yoweri Museveni used to make waves in politics and that was going around on social media in July 2017.

As Amama Mbabazi’s ambitions to become president grew, Kabanda and Kitatta Ibrahim, the No. 2 youth spy on this list, persuaded Museveni that they could significantly lessen Mbabazi’s influence among young people.

According to reports, everyone received a Prado TX, an office that was fully furnished, and Shs3 billion in operating cash.

His task was to organise a group of young people who supported Museveni through YONASA but did not support the NRM as a political party. Kabanda was to report directly to the President through Maj. Nakalema.
