Maj Gen Kyaligonza appeal to Mukono High Court seeking obstruction of his arrest has been adjourned by Cissy Kawuma Mudhasi Deputy Registrar Mukono High Court.
Maj Gen (rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza, Uganda’s Envoy to Burundi was requested by Ms Mudhasi to present a written submission before his appeal is heard on 25 of June 2019.
Kyaligonza had appeared before Mukono High Court registrar, Cissy Kawuma Mudhasi on Thursday, June 20th to enter his verbal plea against his warrant of arrest through his lawyers led by Caleb Alaka, and prosecution team led by Jonathan Nuwaganya, the State Attorney.
I can’t write, I have a problem, so go write your submissions and present them tomorrow (Friday) so that we can pass through them.
Ms Mudhasi stated
Juliet Hantanga, Mukono Chief Magistrate on June 10th directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to arrest Kyaligonza after skipping court summons three times.
Kyaligonza’s guards including Cpl Peter Busindiche and Private John Okurut arrested as well.
June 10 was the stated date for Kyaligonza to appear before the Magistrate to answer charges of assault and occasioning bodily harm to a traffic officer Sgt Esther Namaganda last year on 24 of February in Seeta along Mukono Jinja high way. But Kyaligonza failed to show up. This made Hantanga instruct his arrest.
