Finance Minister Hon Matia Kasaija is hopeful and determined to make every Ugandan rich in the future.
Speaking on the theme “Know Your Budget” in Kontiki Hotel in Hoima District, Hon Kasaija said that he urges Ugandans to enhance their knowledge of the Budget to enable them to monitor the effective implementation of Government programmes and provide feedback thereby improving accountability and government service delivery.
The budget was read last Thursday and that was done. The theme for the budget is “Industrialization for job creation and prosperity” As your minister responsible for this economy, I want everyone to be rich. It is possible.
We wanted to turn this country into a middle-income economy by 2020 but that may not be possible. We cannot all be the same, others will be slightly above.
added Hon Kasaija
According to Hon Matia Kasaija, he has travelled around the world but there’s no beautiful country as gifted as Uganda. He further added that almost everything can be grown on our soils.
In his view, Matia Kasaija stressed that all Ugandans today engaging in productive activities cannot be complaining of extreme poverty something that he has witnessed in his constituency.
In addition, Hon Kasaija said that the problem we have in our country is that we are ignorant about what is on our disposal and even when we are aware, we fail to turn our minerals into wealth.
He further added that in politics and civil service, there is no wealth but people may think UGX20m is a lot of money yet by the end of the month, there is nothing.
Some of us are not in politics for money. I am there to ensure a stable and growing Uganda and to ensure my children live a better life than I have. Politics comes with many responsibilities. Politics is a missionary job to help the people of God live better.
said Hon Kasaija
I was not a poor man but the war of 1979 left me with nothing. This motivated me to join the government to ensure we have a stable government.
Meanwhile, Hon Kasaija said that the total Budget for FY2019/20 that amounts to Shs. 40,487.9 Billion clarifies immense opportunities for all citizens to benefit and take advantage of the revenue and expenditure policies and interventions contained.
I would like to increase the salaries of all civil servants because they are doing a good job. However, I want to be understood by this. We are not forgetful. When the economy grows, we shall answer all those questions.
