Minister of Education for Higher Education Hon. John C. Muyingo has revealed that Ministry Of Education and Sports under the first Lady Janet Museveni has commenced with a process of amending the education act and revise it regarding security and safety of our children’s at and away from school.
All this was arrived after 11 students of St. Bernard Manya Secondary School perished in a fire that destroyed property worth millions and painted a bad image to the ministry. This was followed by the current leader of opposition in Parliament Betty Acol’s call on Mrs. Museveni to resign her role for the increasing fire break outs in Uganda.
Muyingo said this while mourning the death of these students together with the families of the deceased and the school in particular this week. He added that government is working hard to arrest whoever was behind this attack and also as the ministry they are going to enforce close supervision on all schools to see that all guidelines are being followed.
Minister Muyingo further added that 8 suspects have been arrested by police to help get into the root of the matter and 40 students are undergoing treatment in various health facilities in Rakai district and other hospitals.
Accordingly the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Kataha Museven also visited the affected school and consoled the students and parents of St. Benard Secondary school.
Kataha also gave out a condolence fee of 5 million to each parent who lost a child and one million to the hospitalised childen in Kitovu and Kalisizo hospital.
First further says that the premature of these young children must be condemned strongly, she adds that many have not played their part in raising their children well on how to differentiate evil from good she added children at an early age should know their boundaries.
Mrs. Museveni also said that the president who was unable to reach Rakai after the incident sent his sincere condolence and he stands together with the families affected and the school and also said investigations are ongoing.
