Norbert Mao made it clear that DP is not ready to collaborate with other opposition parties to see a joint candidate stand against Museveni in the forthcoming 2021 elections.
The Democratic Party (DP) president, Norbert Mao has issued a strong warning to all his party colleagues who are secretly collaborating with other opposition parties that they will be sacked from the party for good.
Mao made the remarks earlier this week at a gathering where DP was unveiling its flag bearers. He stressed that they will not compromise with any party colleagues found or seen promoting and allying with other party candidates.
Mao who also defended the party’s decision to re-elect him as party president urged party members to be a united force. He said that his consistency in defending and promoting the values and goals of the party has built the people’s trust in him over years.
“I have warned DP members that you should not be seen with a non DP candidate against a DP candidate. We will give you a red carpet to wherever you want to go. There won’t be compromise on discipline. An organization must have red line and we have drawn one. You can’t say you are a catholic priest and want to have a wife. You can’t be in DP and seen promoting other candidates,” Mao stressed.
In recent weeks, notable figures from the Democratic Party have crossed over to join other parties including Elias Lukwago who recently joined the FDC party; others including Betty Nambooze, Medard Sseggona, Moses Kasibante and Mathias Mpuuga have since joined Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP party).
The DP President, however, mentioned that this is a great chance to rebuild the party and have only members who are focused and committed to serving.
“We lost some ‘crops’ but we still have the seeds and we shall rebuild,’’ Mao said lashing out at former DP party members who in recent years have been fighting the party but God is now punishing them in return.
He said that DP has over the years cried out to the Lord to punish those who have wronged their party and also reward those who have treated the party well and now the evidence is clear he is answering.
“Some institutions have been fighting Democratic Party but God is now coming out to punish them. In the next few months you are going to see punishments around. I am not a prophet but you are going to see it. I want to assert that nobody cries to God in vain,” Mao said.
“We in DP are also Ugandans and when we cry to God, he shows his face and punishes those who have wronged us and rewards those who have treated us well. Those who have treated DP well will be rewarded. We are starting this new term on a special note.”
Meanwhile, Norbert Mao made it clear that DP is not ready to collaborate with other opposition parties to see a joint candidate stand against President Museveni in the forthcoming 2021 elections.
Mao said that they have always been at the forefront in advocating for unity among opposition parties but they have been let down by other parties.
“We have been the main advocates for a united front but we have reached a point to be our own. For how long shall we say let us unite and nobody is coming? When you sing and nobody is singing along, you sing alone. Let us focus on rebuilding our party. If we don’t take government in 2021, then 2026 is ours.”
