Wife to Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, was sentenced in Israel by a Jerusalem court on Sunday for misuse of public funds spent on meals. Sara Netanyahu has acknowledged the charge and will have to pay $15,000.
Sara Netanyuhu accusations followed $99.300 amount of money spent on lavish outside catering meals under claims that the PM’s house had no cooks.
Sara Netanyuhu was accused last year of fraud and a violation of trust. However, her attorney told her that the case had no relation to her and that she thought it was a plot to bring down her husband.
Mrs Netanyahu was then told to reimburse the State for $12,490 plus a fine of $2,777 under a plea deal. Mrs Netanyahu will have a criminal record, although her charges have been lowered, according to the Jerusalem post.
Erez Padan, the prosecutor said prosecution made a significant concession that resulted in a balanced and right plea deal. According to him, the compromise has saved the court from calling 80 witnesses.
The prosecutor is conscious that there is not a complete correlation between the amount and the criminal offence, but a complete correlation is not mandatory in the legal procedure.
he said
In 2018, Mrs Netanyahu’s lawyers said that she had not been informed of the external catering processes and that the dinners had been arranged by the family manager and given to dignitaries who paid a visit to their house.
In reply to the statement, Mr Netanyahu claimed that Sara’s wife never did wrong.
Sara Netanyahu is a strong and honourable woman and there has never been any fault in her actions.
A former housekeeper at the house of Prime Minister Meni Naftali, who accused Ms. Netanyahu of abuse of the workplace, was given US$ 47,000.
Court accepted the statement of Meni Naftali that Mrs Netanyahu had insulted him and verbally abused him.
Relatedly, Netanyahu is also facing his own legal problems. The Israeli Attorney General informed him in January 2019 that he intends to indict him in February on allegations of corruption, fraud and violation of trust in connection with three instances, pending final hearing.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and his attorneys will file their defense on the accusations at the final hearing date in October 2019.
According to Netanyahu, all the allegations against him are incorrect and he said it was a political “witch hunt.”
