R. Kelly has come under intense examination after a widely watched docuseries that took a sweeping look at years of sexual misconduct allegations against the R&B star.
He has been charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, with nine of them involving minors.
Robert Sylvester Kelly has faced decades of claims of sexual abuse against women and teenagers under age. Which were never convicted and just of recent he denied these earlier allegations charged on him.
The 52-year-old R&B star offered himself to police on Friday, after an arrest warrant was issued. But his lawyer Steve Greenberg speaking to Associated press said he is “shell shocked”.
“Extraordinarily disappointed and depressed by the charges and maintains his innocence.”
Few days back a documentary series named Surviving R Kelly went viral in all media platforms which followed his accusation.
Featuring decades of sexual crime allegations against this US Singer assaulting women, his ex-wife inclusive.
On Friday R Kelly was allegedly charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, involving four victims by the Cook County Prosecutor.
Which happened between 1998 and 2010. With at least three of victims being under age between 13 & 16, at the time the assault was recorded.
Kim Foxx the State’s Attorney Cook County, said that every count will cost him seven years in jail. And according to reports, a no-bail warrant has been issued to the US Singer.
R Kelly’s Lawyer, Mr Greenberg, speaking to AP said his attempt to sit down with the prosecutors to discuss “why these charges are baseless” was turned down.
The charges come after Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx had asked women to come forward after the documentary series went viral.
Michael Avenatti, a lawyer stated that he is representing six people, including two alleged victims, who made allegations against the R&B star. Adding that one of them was among the Friday accusation.
Avenatti came out last week and said he had revealed and handed over previously unreleased footage to prosecutors showing Robert Kelly engaged in a sexual act with an underage girl.
Avenatti believes the 40-minute tape, indicating Kelly having sexual intercourse and other sexual acts with a 14-year old girl as indicated in the video was shot in 1999. Which he did repeatedly.
The US Singer earlier on, was cleared over another video tape relating to this one in 2008, on several Count of child pornography. Which he denied.
