President Museveni launches re-election manifesto for the coming 2021-2026 presidential term.

While delivering his manifesto for the coming 2021-2026 presidential term, Museveni yet again prioritised defence as one of the key areas that he will continue to tackle if he wins the next election.

On Monday following his nomination, Museveni launched his 2021-2026 manifesto for the coming term. The theme titled “securing your future” focuses on five priority areas including creating wealth and jobs, delivering education and health, ensuring justice and equity, protecting life and property, and achieving economic and political integration.

Museveni, however, stressed that his priorities are defence and security. He said that in addition to other advancements and infrastructure developments, Uganda as a country must always have a strong army.

“This manifesto builds on the success of NRM. NRM has an unmatched record of performance and a clear vision of securing your future. We are now ready for takeoff,” Museveni said.

“My priorities are defense – we must always have a strong army, then I add electricity, roads and railway, health, education and paying government scientists well and wealth funds.”

Museveni also said that Uganda has enjoyed more than three decades of peace because of NRM’s continuous struggle towards democracy, patriotism, pan-Africanism and socio-economic transformation.

“It is the first time ever that Uganda has enjoyed more than three decades of uninterrupted stable democratic process based on the ruling party’s core principles of democracy, patriotism, pan-Africanism and socio-economic transformation,” Museveni added.

“In order to accelerate Uganda’s socio-economic transformation, I appeal to you for a fresh mandate for NRM to continue leading the country.”

Meanwhile, this came only hours after his nomination on Monday. The ruling NRM party flag bearer was duly nominated as a presidential candidate for the 2021 general elections.

“I hereby declare Yoweri Museveni Tibuhaburwa Kaguta duly nominated candidate in respect to the presidential elections of 2021 having fulfilled the requirements as set out in the Presidential Elections Act 2005,” EC chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama said confirming Museveni’s nomination.

Speaking shortly after his nomination, Museveni thanked his NRM supporters for the strong love they have shown him over the years.

“I want to thank the NRM supporters from the districts who nominated me. We had to get at least 100 signatures but we got more,” Museveni said issuing a warning to all those who want to destabilise the peace of the country.

“I hear there are people who want to destabilise peace. I would like to encourage everybody to maintain peace. If you want to bring chaos here, you will regret it. We don’t play,” Museveni added.

“No one is better than us when it comes to fighting and fighting weapons. NRM fought to bring peace and so we don’t play.”
