Bobi Wine has assured his supporters that he will campaign in every banned district despite the EC’s decision to suspend campaigns in those areas.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) party presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine has assured his supporters that he will campaign in every banned district despite the Electoral Commission’s decision to suspend campaigns in 13 districts.
Last week, the EC chairperson ordered for the suspension of physical political campaigns in Mukono, Wakiso, Kampala and 10 other districts. Justice Byabakama the Commission’s Chairperson noted that this was done due to the increasing COVID-19 infections in these districts.
However, while addressing a press conference at the NUP offices in Kamwokya on Tuesday, Bobi Wine said that the decision will not drive them away from reaching out to their voters more so in these districts.
He said that they will do everything possible to ensure that they reach out to every Ugandan whether physically, scientifically or lyrically.
“Banned or not banned, we are coming to the people. Despite the bias of the Electoral Commission, we are coming to speak to every Ugandan. We will reach out to every Ugandan whether physically, scientifically, or lyrically,” Bobi Wine assured.
This comes at a time when NRM’s Museveni was pictured in Mukono on Monday while commissioning the Mukono-Katosi road. In his speech, Museveni noted that he was not there to campaign but to launch a road for the benefit of the area people.
Museveni pinpointed that it was the reason he dressed down from his usually yellow campaign shirt to a suit so that he does not violate the rules put forth by the EC.
“We were not breaking any rules in our campaigns, I ensured I never addressed rallies, not get out to wave or gather supporters. But the EC bundled us with those violating rules and we shall oblige no matter how unfair it is to us. I had to remove my yellow campaign shirt and come with a suit so that no one says I am breaking any rules. That said, I am happy to launch this road for the benefit of our people,” Museveni said yesterday.

However, commenting about the scene, Kyagulanyi who could not hold back his disappointment towards the commission said that they are treating the ruling party differently from those in the opposition.
He said that evidence is clear the NRM party is conniving with the Commission to depolarised those in the opposition but they will not give up.
“Yesterday I saw Museveni in Mukono after blocking us from there, and I said, what kind of hypocrisy is this? I know the regime is doing this to demoralize us. I can assure you, Museveni and your cronies, we will not give up. We will die trying,” Kyagulanyi noted.
