Another victim has succumbed to injuries sustained following the Fidodido roof collapse on Monday.

The new victim identified as Lorita Blessy Asiimwe was one of the many people who sustained massive injuries following the abrupt Fidodido roof collapse as they were holding their lunchtime prayers.

According to notable sources, Lorita is a former Uganda Christian University (UCU) student who was pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management.

According to a statement from the Mukono based Institute, the deceased was due to graduate in July 2021. The University noted that their student had gone for Lunchtime prayers when the tragedy happened.

“It is on a sad note that we announce the death of, a final year student of Bachelor in Human Resource Management. She was one of the victims of the Fidodido building collapse yesterday. Lorita had gone for Lunch Hour Prayers and she was due to graduate in July 2021,” her colleagues announced.

She becomes the second victim reported dead following the sad news. The first was according to a Monday statement from the police identified as Mama Nava a resident of Nsambya.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson,  Luke Owoyesigyire, police responded earlier enough to the occasion to ensure that lives are saved. He noted that they have since recovered 18 people who were part of the group.

Owoyesigyire noted that despite the two deaths, they are happy to announce that many who sustained injuries are now steadily recovering.

He said that the body of the first victim was conveyed at Mulago hospital for a postmortem review.

“After the caving in of the Ceiling, different groups of people started taking the victims to Mulago and other health facilities in Kampala. At Mulago, we have confirmed 18 victims who were injured as a result of the collapse,” the police spokesperson said on Monday.

“One of the victims died and her body has been conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for postmortem. Our detectives are still moving around different hospitals to ascertain the real number of the injured during the incident,” he added.

However, this is not the first time a building has collapsed abruptly, the issue of buildings breaking down continues to grow every single day in the country.
