Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi is a Ugandan educationist and politician.
Honourable Nyirabashitsi Sarah Mateke also serves as the current Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development.
Early Life and Education
Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi was born on July 15, 1974, in Chahi sub county, Kisoro District, in the region of Kigezi to Philemon Mateke (father) a politician who served as the state’s previous minister of regional affairs.
And Joy Rwanfizi Mateke (mother) who was a qualified teacher. She is the third child in a family of six.
Nyirabashitsi went to Seseme Integrate School and Maryhill High School where she completed her secondary education.
She enrolled in Bugema University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
Additionally, she has a Master’s degree in public health from the same institution, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Christian University.
Career and Professional Work Experience
Nyirabashitsi started working for the government as the Kisoro town council’s assistant town clerk.
After that, she ran against the incumbent, Eudia Kwizera, for the position of a woman member of parliament for the Kisoro District and won.
She now serves as the chairperson of the board of trustees for the Metropolitan International University in Kampala and the chairperson of the board of directors for the Makerere Metropolitan Management Institute, which includes its campuses in Kisoro and other cities throughout Uganda.
She belongs to the National Resistance Movement.
Achievements and Awards
She founded the Nyirabashitsi Foundation, which provides financial assistance to children who wish to enrol in boarding secondary schools from senior one to senior six.
Nyirabashitsi joined the family businesses, which included timber production and transportation.
Controversies
Regarding the plans to repatriate the deceased body of Shallot, Hon. Mateke states that additional research is required.
They are also interested in a postmortem report from Saudi Arabia and are still waiting to conduct another one once the body arrives in Uganda. The goal of everything is to allay any doubts.
