The Mwera Tea Estate is located 12 miles off the Kampala-Mityana Road, about 70 km from Kampala. It has a 403-hectare total land area, of which 313 hectares are currently in production following considerable restoration. The estate has 540 employees.

A recent modernization and expansion program for the tea factory increased output capacity by more than 70%, allowing for the daily intake of up to 40,000 kg of green leaf.

Jumbo withering troughs, a cutting-edge CTC (Crush-Tear-Curl) line, a Continuous Fermenting Machine, a new dryer, a winnower, a wood-fueled air heater, and other sorting and grading machines are just a few examples of the new equipment.

The factory building has also been expanded to make room for all the new equipment.

The production area for tea will be expanded in the long term, and local outgrowers will be encouraged to enhance their supply to the facility.

The estate also has a brand-new elementary school that educates students from neighboring communities as well as the kids of estate workers.

A Tour of Mityana Town

The town of Mityana is located in Uganda’s Central Region. The district headquarters are there, and it serves as the district’s primary municipal, administrative, and commercial hub.

In Mityana town, there is a market, little supermarkets, neighborhood eateries, and bars. One trip to Kampala, where there are many different stores, is required for more errands.

The availability of the telephone and internet, as well as the provision of energy and water, is assured (with periodic interruptions in the power supply).

There are many pharmacies and health clinics for medical care. It is advised to travel to Kampala, the country’s capital, for a more thorough treatment. Due to its remote location, Mityana has few recreational opportunities.

Lake Wamala

One of the freshwater lakes in central Uganda is called Lake Wamala. The lake’s surface area is roughly 250 square kilometers, and its depth ranges from 1.5 to 4.5 meters.

The lake is on the verge of going extinct as a result of climate change and human encroachment. Gomba, Mubende, and Mityana all share Lake Wamala.

The lake’s buffer zones are heavily farmed for agriculture, have floating plants, and are the habitat of unique, threatened bird species. In the locations around the lake, you will find farmlands with rice fields, eucalyptus forests, and tomato gardens.

In addition to unique bird species, the lake is home to a few fish species that are at grave risk of extinction, including Oreochromis esculentus, Oreochromis variabilis, and labeo Victorinus.

The lake is a major location for ecology and culture. A Ramsar site has been designated for the lake.

Conclusion

Due to low investment in tourism infrastructure, limited branding, marketing, and promotion, poor transport connectivity, and other factors, Mityana municipality’s main tourism sites—which include cultural sites, beaches, and landing sites—are not fully utilized to develop the municipality’s tourism potential.

However, the places to visit in Mityana we’ve listed are worth a try.
