Achievements and Awards

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) selected Eng. Moses Magogo to its Executive Committee in May 2017, making him the first Ugandan to hold that position.

During the same CAF Extraordinary General Assembly Congress in Bahrain, Magogo was also appointed to three additional committees inside the organization.

Magogo had a crucial role in both the governance reforms implemented by FUFA and in Mr. Lawrence Mulindwa’s tenure as president of the organization from 2005 to 2013.

He is recognized for having revolutionized Uganda’s football league and competition structures, especially the FUFA Big League and Regional Leagues.

The Uganda Cranes qualified from the group stages of the AFCON Finals (Egypt) for the first time since 1978. FIFA placed the Uganda Cranes 62nd in the world in 2016.

Uganda won two of the three AFCON Finals that it qualified for (National U-17 in Tanzania 2019, Uganda Cranes-Gabon 2017 and Egypt 2019).

Magogo Moses was also in charge of initiating the player contractual laws and procedures in Uganda as well as arranging and finishing the different football sponsorship agreements.

He established the FUFA Juniors League (originally for U-17 teams, but currently for U-19 teams), the FUFA Women Elite League in 2014, and the Super8 Cup competition, which draws the top six league finishers and newcomers to the FUFA Big League.

The inaugural CAF Standing Committee meeting (Futsal and Beach Soccer Committee in Entebbe) was held in Uganda.

Controversies

Moses Magogo was fined sh37 million and banned from football activities for two months in 2019 by FIFA, the world football governing body, following his involvement in the illicit resale of 2014 FIFA World Cup tickets.

Moses Magogo was discovered to have broken FIFA’s rule during the suspension period after being spotted watching the Cranes play Malawi at Namboole Stadium.

All things considered, Magogo was greeted as a hero by the FUFA executive, friends, and well-wishers, including the recently appointed Minister of State for Sports, when he returned to work on December 10th following his two-month suspension.

Moses Magogo was voted out of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee in July 2023 by Sudan Football Association president Dr. Mutasim Gafar Sirelkhatim, 20 to 34 votes behind.

Since taking office in 2019, Magogo has presided over several CECAFA members who were unable to host international matches because they lacked facilities that met CAF requirements.

Magogo’s wealth is a cause for alarm. The president’s office of Fufa has an annual budget of almost Shs 200 million. Even Nevertheless, after just eight years in charge, Magogo’s possessions and vehicles are thought to be worth more than his official salary from FUFA.

he fact that Magogo was able to spend so much money on his bid to become a member of parliament for Budiope East specifically caused more people to take notice and suspect that he was cheating FUFA.

“People forget I am a professional telecom engineer who worked with top international organizations earning very well for many years,” Magogo said.

Dismissing claims that he steals from FUFA, he emphasized that his brain has contributed so much value to football. He is therefore compensated for that worth.

Magogo has also been accused of being conceited. He allegedly called the Uganda Cranes’ football team “shitty football,” which former Cranes captain Denis Onyango, Hassan Mawanda Wasswa, and other team members felt was disrespectful and allegedly caused them to quit international football.
