Oyite Ojok died in a helicopter accident in 1983 while on a mission to evaluate the progress of the National Liberation Army (NRA), a guerilla rebel group led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who would subsequently gain power in 1986.

Auma also experienced the loss of her mother when she was 8 years old, leaving her a complete orphan. As a result, she lived in poverty and sorrow throughout her early years and life.

With the assistance of well-wishers, Auma attended school and gave birth to her first child at the age of 16.

Auma, a mother of two by then, went back to school to finish her O’levels at the age of twenty-six years. President Yoweri Museveni, a former adversary of his father, financed her tuition.

She then completed an accounting certificate programme, enrolled in a business administration diploma programme, and eventually sought a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Controversies

In November 2018, Auma Linda, the Amuru Resident district commissioner by then stopped the elections of the new executive members of the Amuru Land Owners Association due to alleged fraud and voter bribery.

Two charcoal dealers were admitted to Luweero Hospital in April 2020 in severe condition after they were allegedly mistreated by the Amuru Resident District Commissioner, Auma’s assistants.

The RDC’s driver, Patrick Omara, aka Akeng, one Robert Okwera, and a Crime Intelligence Officer only known as Okot allegedly stopped the two traders, identified as Hawa Namubiru and Elvis Mugula, both residents of Kiwogozi zone in Luweero Town Council, in the Amuru district and beat them.

According to Namubiru, they were stopped and assaulted for allegedly leaking an audio message in which she claimed to have paid Auma 1.5 million Shillings previously to obtain the return of her seized goods.

She continued by alleging that the RDC’s assistants attacked her before handing her off to Auma, who took her phone away on the grounds that it had been used to record her while she was requesting a bribe.

They were then moved to Amuru Central Police Station, where they were held there on the RDC’s orders for three days.

Auma discounted the leaked recording on extortion before the alleged torture, saying she is a prominent figure in Amuru whose name may be used by anyone for all the wrong reasons.

Auma claimed that she had gone for antenatal care on the day that Namubiru was reportedly forced to pay money and that her phone had been turned off. However, she claimed that Namubiru was operating in the charcoal trade illegally.
