Early Life and Education
Bob Kabonero is the youngest of three children born in Uganda’s Ntungamo District in January 1965.
Susan Muhwezi, the eldest, is the wife of Ugandan Security Minister Jim Muhwezi. Richard Kabonero, Uganda’s ambassador to Tanzania, is his older brother.
He was born to the late Dr Kosia Kabonero, who died in 1995, and the late Canon Constance Kabonero, who died on May 30, 2023, at Victoria Hospital in Kampala, where she had been taken after suffering from chest difficulties.
His father was a veterinary doctor in Rujumbura, the now Rukungiri District.
Bob Kabonero enrolled at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, England, to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and retail management.
He studied there from 1989 to 1992 and graduated with Upper Second class honours.
He has two children, Isaac Mahone Musoki and Lisa Kemisha.
Career and Professional Work Experience
Bob Kabonero returned to Uganda in 1992 after finishing college. Telecoms were a government-owned enterprise at the time but he applied for a licence and became Uganda’s first internet service provider.
He then sold his stake to Airtel, which was known as Celtel at the time.
In 1993, Bob opened Kampala Casino, which was also Uganda’s first casino. In April 2008, he opened Pyramids Casino, which was valued at $800,000.
He operates two casinos, Kampala Casino and the Pyramids Casino in Uganda bringing in over 150 different products every day.
He also has casinos in bordering nations, including in Kigali, Rwanda.
He formed the Association of Oil and Gas Service Providers, an organisation that advocates for Ugandan businesses. Many corporate contracts had gone to foreign companies with strength and resources, and there was growing discontent among small local enterprises which prompted him to form the Association.
Bob Kabonero is the Chairman of the Vienna College Board of Governors.
Bob Kabonero is the Director/Chairman of Europcar’s Uganda franchise, which provides logistics and transportation to various oil firms.
Kabonero is the chairman of Park Hospitality Limited, which is developing the projected Kampala Radisson Blue Hotel in collaboration with the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group.
Bob co-owns Radio Ankole, a local radio station, alongside his mother Constance Kabonero and Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana.

He is one of the country’s most successful businesspeople, with holdings in real estate, radio, and entertainment. As of 2019, his net worth is estimated to be above $250 million.
He is passionate about agriculture and has established a modest demonstration farm where Israeli professionals educate farmers on advanced agricultural and irrigation techniques.
Controversies
In March 2023, Bob Kabonero demanded that Mbarara City North MP Robert Rukaari apologise publicly for slander and unlawful leaking of his private information.
Rukaari claimed that Kabonero had a hand in his imprisonment for a civil debt.
