Early Life and Education

Margaret Ssekidde was born in 1963 in Uganda.

She got married to Lt. Col. Robert Ssekidde, the founder of Seroma Investments Limited in 1991. 

She is a mother of six children. She had her last two children ten years after delivering the first four. She also has grandchildren.

Margaret Ssekidde has earned an honorary doctorate.

She is a devoted Christian and member of the Mothers Union at All Saints Church Jjanyi in Kitende Parish, Entebbe Archdeaconry in Namirembe Diocese.

Career and Professional Work Experience

Margaret Ssekidde is a successful businesswoman who began her career at the age of sixteen and now owns numerous enterprises in Uganda together with her husband.

Together with Lt. Col. Robert Ssekidde, they own Seroma Hardware which is the biggest hardware dealership in the country.

They also own a multi-billion business estate that comprises schools (Seroma Christian High) and a shopping mall in Kampala as well as other commercial buildings spotting Kampala’s several outskirts.

Margaret, as Managing Director of Seroma Limited, empowers staff to recommend and assist in the development of necessary adjustments to attain effectiveness in the company.

Philanthropy Works

In August 2021, Margaret Ssekidde contributed USh 20 million along with other city tycoons to help the Church of Uganda pay off its USh 60 billion debt to Equity Bank.

Following Jacob Oulanya’s death, Margaret volunteered to pay for one hundred twenty children that the late Oulanya had been sponsoring until they completed their A’level studies.

She then requested the late’s friends to ensure that these children continued to finish University since most of them were pursuing Science combinations. 

Mrs Ssekidde is also the co-founder of the Seroma Foundation, an organization that supports needy children.

Seroma Foundation was launched in Mukono on Saturday, 9 March 2019. The Foundation is aimed at providing support to disadvantaged children who wish to continue with their education.

In 2021, in an effort to alleviate the hunger brought on by the 42-day COVID-19 lockdown, Margret Ssekidde gave a variety of food items to roughly 1000 at-risk individuals in Makindye, Kampala after reaching out for partnerships with Kampala salt and Tororo cement which she duly received.

Achievements and Awards

In June 2020, Dr Margret, together with Canon Robert Ssekidde received a Business Impact Award at the 2020 Vine Awards.

Controversies

The Departed Asians Properties Custodian Board (DAPCB) and its Executive Secretary George William Bizibu received UGX. 1.6 billion from Margaret Ssekidde in 2021 but failed to issue the promised property.

Margaret escalated the situation and reported it to the President, who requested a probe of the DAPCB’s operations. This resulted in the freeze of DAPCB accounts as well as the investigation of the bank’s top officials.
