Early Life and Education

Stephen James Doocy also known as Steve Doocy was born on October 19, 1956, in Algona, Iowa, United States of America.

He is the sole son and firstborn child of the late James “Jim” Edward Doocy, a construction and sales professional who passed away on February 8, 2014, and his mother, JoAnne Sharp Doocy. His sisters are Cathy Doocy and Lisa Doocy.

His mother’s grandmother was Swedish, and his paternal grandfather was Irish. 

Thus, he has Swedish, German, English, and Irish ancestry.

He attended the Kansas grade schools in Industry, Salina, and Russell while growing up in Industry. 

Doocy attended junior high at Wakefield, Kansas and followed with high school at Clay Centre, Kansas.

He graduated from the University of Kansas in Lawrence with a Bachelor of Science in journalism degree.

He was the first disc jockey to appear on air at Lawrence’s student-run 90.7 FM radio station, KJHK.

Family and Personal Life

Steve Doocy got married to Kathy Garrity Doocy, who was featured in a Chatty Cathy doll TV commercial and was formerly a model and sports reporter.

They were married on June 30, 1986, having first met at a TV station in Washington, DC, where they were both employed.

The pair has three grown children: Peter Doocy, a 1987-born Fox News White House correspondent, and two girls, Mary and Sally Doocy. 

He is a resident of Wyckoff, New Jersey, and his spouse Kathy Doocy is a cancer survivor.

Hillary Vaughn is his father-in-law.

Steve Doocy is a lector at his church and a follower of the Roman Catholic faith.

In 2014, the Native Sons and Daughters of Kansas awarded Doocy the title of Distinguished Kansan of the Year.

Career and Professional Work Experience

Steve Doocy began his career in television by working as a reporter for TV stations in Kansas City, Topeka, Des Moines, and Wichita.

His first significant market job was as a features reporter for Washington, D.C.’s WRC. 

After the 1960s Art Linkletter show was remade, Doocy was named the host of NBC’s nationally syndicated programme House Party with Steve Doocy in 1990.

Doocy began his career in morning shows in 1994 when he was hired as co-host of NBC’s America’s Talking channel’s Wake Up America.

In 1996, he moved to New York City to anchor the morning newscast on WCBS-TV, the flagship station of CBS-TV.

For four ball drops, he covered Times Square live for Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on ABC-TV.

After joining the Fox News Channel in 1996, Doocy started co-hosting Fox & Friends, the network’s morning programme, in 1998.

He was involved in the 2004 launch of Fox News Channel’s All American New Year, a New Year’s Eve special that featured Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly as hosts.

Other Works

The Happy in a Hurry Cookbook, authored by Doocy and his spouse Kathy in 2020, shot to the top of the New York Times Best Seller list and quickly gained popularity as one of the nation’s best cookbooks of that pandemic year.

The Mr. and Mrs. Happy Handbook and Tales from the Dad Side were also written by the Doocys. 

New York Times bestsellers William Morrow and Company, a division of HarperCollins, published all four of the books.

Achievements and Awards

Steve Doocy has won eleven Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, as well as awards for TV reporting and writing from the Associated Press and the Society of Professional Journalists.

According to reports in 2019, Trump gave many reporters’ loyalty a score of 1 to 10. Doocy scored a whopping “12 out of 10.”

His credits as a writer and producer include The Newscenter (1971), Fox and Friends (1998), and Christmas in the Rockies (2020).
