Airtel Uganda scraps off all Penalty fees on Wewole loans following the COVID-19 pandemic
Airtel Uganda has scrapped off all penalty fees on Wewole loans to help their customers have easy access to loan repayments even after the due date as the country continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is aimed to provide financial support to all airtel users mostly those struggling to survive at a time when Uganda is fighting hard to mitigate the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
Wewole is a micro-credit solution that offers customers and agents a convenient way to access credit facilities from Airtel Money and can be utilized by any Airtel customer or agent registered fully on the Airtel Money platform.
Of recent, customers could borrow money via the Airtel Wewole loan option and pay it before the due date.
However, following the coronavirus pandemic, Airtel has removed all penalty fees on customers who fail to clear their Wewole loans in the specified time frame urging that they can repay this money even past the repayment deadline.
Any Airtel customer can access the Wewole loans by simply dialling *185#, choose option 8 and then option 1 to get a loan and repay at their time of convenience without penalty fees.
As a convenient service, Airtel Money has proved to be a top contender in the race for a higher financial inclusion rate. It is even more favourable during this time when many Ugandans need instant cash loans to survive during this time of uncertainty.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Uganda, the Government has imposed many directives to mitigate the spread of the virus, such as stopping the movement of all public transport means and closing non-food shops among others.
This left many people unemployed, sitting at home from morning to night, so many of them don’t even earn one penny but spend money each day trying to feed their families.
President Museveni announced on Tuesday the extension of lockdown for another three weeks to 5 May. This means that many families will continue to strive hard for this period to survive.
But with Wewole loans, Airtel Uganda brought a lot of hope for many Ugandans. Furthermore, by the end of July, it intends to complete its $675 million investment in its network.
According to VG Somasekar the Airtel Uganda Managing Director, there is every reason to invest all this money in Uganda because the country is at the beginning of its smartphone growth trajectory.
