Aisha Sekindi is a politician and educator from Uganda.
She is the female representative for Kalungu district in Uganda’s eleventh parliament and also in the previous tenth Parliament.
Since February 2022, Hon. Aisha has served as the country’s Minister of State for Water.
Aisha is a member of the National Resistance Movement on whose ticket she ran in the 2016 general elections where she defeated Aisha Naluyati Waliggo.
Early Life and Education
Aisha Sekindi was born on 4th December 1970 in Uganda.
She went to Kyato Muslim Primary School before transferring to Kadugala Secondary School in 1984 to complete her O Levels where she earned her Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) in 1988.
She later graduated from Kibuli Teacher Training College in 1995 with a Teachers Certificate.
Career and Professional Work Experience

Aisha Sekindi began her career in 1997 to 2001 when she was the deputy head-teacher at Saint Kizito Primary School in Lwengo.
She later rose to the position of Local Council V Councillor for Lwabenge. From 2001 to 2007, she served as Masaka District Local Government’s Secretary for Gender.
From 2007 to 2011, she also worked in Kamuli District and Tororo District as the deputy Resident District Commissioner. She as well served as the Buyende district’s acting Resident District Commissioner between 2010 and 2011.
Aisha Sekindi worked as the Lira district’s deputy Resident District Commissioner from 2013 to 2014 before she was elected to the legislature.
She served as a female legislator in Uganda’s tenth parliament and is listed as a member of the Committee on Agriculture. She is affiliated with the Uganda Women’s Parliamentary Association (UWOPA).
In the 2016 General elections, Aisha contested as the woman MP for Kalungu District and won which led to conflicts with Waliggo Aisha Nuluyati of the Democratic Party of Uganda (DP) who was also contesting for the same position.
President Museveni appointed Hon. Aisha Sekindi to the office of Minister of State for Water in the Ministry of Water and Environment replacing Hon. Ronald Kibuule in 2021.
Controversies
Waliggo Aisha Nuluyati of DP filed a case against Aisha Sekindi to the high court claiming that Aisha didn’t possess the required academic qualifications for the woman MP position she was elected in.
She was however declared the rightful woman MP for Kalungu District despite Waliggo’s claims following the 2016 elections.
