Albert Saltson, also known as Albert Richard Saltson, is a Ghanaian professional banker, businessman and executive leader.

He possesses expertise in negotiating, operations management, banking, leadership, client experience, strategy, and risk assessment.

Albert Saltson performed the role of the former Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank Uganda.

Early Life and Education

Albert Saltson was born in Ghana. He graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics.

On top of that, he has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in International Banking from Henley Management College in the United Kingdom.

Albert also has a Diploma in Management from Oxford University and a Certificate in General Management from INSEAD.

Career and Professional Work Experience

Albert Saltson began his career with Standard Chartered as a management trainee in 1987. 

Since then, he has held a number of high management positions in Africa, including Chief Executive Officer of Sierra Leone, Head of Consumer Banking in Zambia, and Executive Director of Consumer Banking in Ghana. 

He was previously the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Standard Chartered Bank Gambia, a position he held from June 1, 2015, to March 2017.

Saltson was instrumental in advancing the bank’s overall performance and guided the Gambia business to great financial performance.

From April 2007 to May 2015, he was the Chief Executive Officer at Standard Chartered Bank Sierra Leone.

During the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone, he displayed extraordinary leadership and courage by actively participating in the development of the national Ebola emergency private sector force.

From May 2001 to April 2007, he was the Executive Director of Consumer Banking at Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana. Prior to that, from June 1998 to May 2001, he was the Executive Director of Consumer Banking at Standard Chartered Bank Zambia.

He was named CEO of Standard Chartered Bank- Uganda in April 2017, a position he held for five years till April 2022. 

In this capacity, he used talents such as credit risk, operations management, new business development, customer service, and banking.

He succeeded Herman Kasekende, the first Ugandan to lead Standard Chartered Bank after being named CEO of Standard Chartered Bank Zambia.

Mr Sanjay Rughani was chosen as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Uganda to succeed him after his tenure ended in April 2022.

Achievements and Honours

Albert Saltson is a seasoned Chief Executive Officer with a track record of success in the banking industry. 

Saltson’s term has mostly focused on digitising the bank in order to satisfy changing client expectations. And, under his leadership, there has been a considerable change in financial services, aided by appropriate investments and continual innovation to assure top-tier digital goods and solutions.

Products such as the Standard Chartered Mobile App, Kiosk Banking, and Agent Banking, among others, influenced the decision to reduce its brick-and-mortar banking approach.

Standard Chartered Bank’s total assets were sh3.8 trillion in 2020, a 21% increase over the previous year. 

Customers’ deposits totalled sh2.7 trillion, a 27.1% increase. The bank’s net profits before tax fell by 41.6% to sh72 billion.

Standard Chartered Bank provided up to sh1.6 billion in relief to various groups such as the Red Cross, Straight Talk Africa, and UNICEF, among others.

They also provided assistance to around 600 young people in the digital and capacity-building sectors. Since 2006, they have also provided educational help to approximately 48,000 girls.
