This was not Mufumbiro’s first attempt to become MP from Jinja. He hopes to move mountains in 2026. He has fought other political titans before, including ANT’s Paul Mwiru, who once accused him of being a spoiler from Norbert Mao’s DP.

Controversies

In October 2017, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the then Guild President of Uganda Christian University Mukono, was suspended from office for mismanaging and stealing guild funds.
Professor Stephen Noll, Vice Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, announced Waiswa’s suspension. According to Noll, a disciplinary committee found Waiswa and Guild Internal Affairs Minister Kenneth Munaawa guilty of fraud.
Waiswa and Munaawa were charged with instructing the guild treasurer to give them 12 million shillings to buy a new television set for the students. The new television set cost only two million shillings.
Munaawa allegedly pocketed 3.1 million shillings, with the remainder going unaccounted for. Munaawa admitted to stealing the money and was given one day to repay it. He was expelled from the university for failing to do so.
Professor Noll issued a statement in which he expressed his disappointment and dissatisfaction with the guild leaders’ actions. He claimed they had harmed the guild government and the university.
Noll praised the guild government for bringing the issue to the university’s attention and warned that anyone who participated in the fraud would be held accountable under university regulations and could face criminal charges. Alex Waiswa was removed from office for the rest of the September semester.
During the May 24, Barometer show on NBS TV, National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy spokesperson Waiswa Mufumbiro launched a scathing attack on businessman Frank Gashumba.
Mufumbiro called Gashumba a “confusion monger.” He also stated that Gashumba is the most elderly and obscene person he has ever witnessed. This came after Gashumba spoke about the NUP insults he has endured for a long time.
Gashumba stated that he had long been critical of the government. However, he has never been insulted or tortured in the way that NUP has. Gashumba went on to say that the young people who were insulting him could be forgiven.
Those who train them cannot be forgiven. Furthermore, Mufumbiro directed NBS TV to stop inviting people with no manners, such as Gashumba. “Mr. Gashumba lacks the moral authority to speak about young people.”
He spent an entire week demeaning Buganda’s Katikkiro. He’s the most heinous person I’ve ever met. He is a master of perplexity.
This is a task for you, NBS. “Make sure the people you invite here are respectful,” Mufumbiro advised. Gashumba’s name has charges of sexual assault and forgery printed on it, according to Waiswa Mufumbiro.
