Activities at Amuka Safari Lodge
Rhino tracking
Experiencing rhinos in their natural habitat, up close and in person, is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The Rhino Sanctuary is the only location in Uganda where this is possible, therefore if you wish to complete your ‘big five’ wildlife checklist, you must stop here.
Visitors to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary see the rhinos, which have flourished since they arrived in 2004 and 2005, as they traverse the 70 square kilometres of undulating hills and native woodlands on which the sanctuary is set.
Many guests describe it as one of the most emotionally charged, thrilling, and memorable experiences of their life.
Guided nature walks
Amuka is ideally situated as a halfway point between Kampala and Murchison Falls National Park.
You can organise nature hikes in the late afternoon or early morning to observe the abundant and diverse fauna that inhabits the sanctuary.
Visitors frequently observe Ugandan kobs, Oribis, Duikers, Warthogs, Waterbucks, Bushbucks, Reedbucks, Vervet monkeys, and Colobus monkeys.
Frequently observed reptiles include chameleons, geckos, and agamas. You might catch a glimpse of a Leopard, Aardvark, Genet cat, or Porcupine if you are lucky.
Bird watching
With more than 340 species of birds at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Amuka Safari Lodge has become a must-visit location for both avid and novice birders.
Shoebill canoe safaris
The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is bordered by the beautiful Lugogo Wetlands encompassing 10 kilometres. This wetland is an essential component of the ecology and is home to several species and unique birds.
It offers unrivalled chances for bird watching in Uganda, including the vulnerable and endangered Shoebill Stork.
Giant Kingfishers, Palmnut Vultures, White Crested Turacos, Barbets, and 11 woodpecker species, including the Speckle-breasted Woodpecker, are among the other more than 340 species found on the Sanctuary.
Night walk
The most recent addition to the list of activities at Amuka Safari lodge are the night walks which give you the best opportunity for spotting the elusive leopard or aardvark.
This is one of the most exhilarating activities, as you will be walking through the darkness with only your flashlight to guide you.
While staying at Amuka Safari lodge, you can also take part in more activities at the nearby Murchison Falls National Park. Activities like game drives, visiting Murchison Falls, boat cruise, hot air balloon safaris and a unique birding experience will make your trip more memorable.
