Ayoo Jennifer Nalukwago, commonly known as Ayoo Jennifer is a Ugandan politician and Member of Parliament in Uganda’s eleventh parliament.

Ayoo Jennifer is the current Woman Member of Parliament representing Kalaki District in Eastern Uganda’s Teso Sub-Region. 

She is a member of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party. 

Early Life and Education

Ayoo Jennifer Nalukwago is originally from Kalaki, Kaberamaido District, Eastern Region of Uganda.

She graduated in 2012 from the UMCAT School Of Journalism And Mass Communication after studying Mass Communications/Broadcasting.

Ayoo Jennifer is also the mother of one daughter.

Career and Professional Work Experience

Ayoo Jennifer Nalukwago won the National Resistance Movement primaries in November 2020, defeating Maria Goretti Ajilo, a former Kaberamaido District Member of Parliament who was on the NRM ticket.

She then ran for the Kalaki Member of Parliament seat as the NRM’s flag bearer in the 2021 General Elections. 

Kalaki was split out of the Kaberamaido district to form its District in 2019.

Ayoo Jeniffer Nalukwago received 16,489 votes and defeated the two other competitor candidates: Ajilo Maria Goretti Elogu, who ran as an Independent and received 15,738 votes and Asao Susan of the Forum for Democratic Change who received 2,964 votes.

Before this, Jennifer Ayoo worked as a Scribe at Etop Radio before being elected Woman MP of Kalaki.

Achievements and Awards

Ayoo Jennifer Nalukwago has contributed to the fight against the spread of the coronavirus in Uganda by giving boxes of Covidex herbal medicine as well as personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) such as sanitisers and face masks. 

The Kalaki District COVID-19 Task Force Committee, led by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Paul Kalikwani, accepted the donations. 

She gave out 400 bottles of Covidex, of which she purchased 300 and received the remaining 100 from Prof Patrick Engeu Ogwang, a lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the drug’s originator.

Jenifer Ayo Nalukwago also started distributing sanitary pads in primary schools across the district to boost menstruation hygiene. 

She distributed 1,107 packets of sanitary pads to three primary schools: Otuboi Township Primary School, Amukurat Primary School, and Opiltok Primary School, with one pack distributed to each schoolgirl.

The Office of the Prime Minister [OPM] allocated Shs 300 million to Kalaki district for the renovation of a 9.5-kilometre length of road connecting the sub-counties of Bululu and Ocelekura.

This was revealed by Francis Emalu, the Kalaki district engineer, during a road monitoring exercise conducted by the district roads committee, which was directed by Jennifer Ayoo.

Jennifer Ayoo Nalukwago was also appointed as the chairperson of the district roads committee.

Controversies

In September 2020, the Kalaki district roads committee requested that one of their district engineers be detained and probed for the alleged embezzlement of sh350 million allocated for the restoration of one of the district’s roads.

The committee chaired by the district Woman MP Jennifer Ayoo, decided that Ronny Kyazze be held and interrogated at Kalaki Central Police Station.
