Royal wedding

By now, you must have already heard about or watched Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Nadiope Gabula IV & Lady Jovia Mutesi’s wedding.

You may have also heard about Kyabazinga’s other alleged marriage.  Like you, we couldn’t hold our curiosity and did some digging about Kyabazinga and his previous marriage. This is what we discovered.

How does the Kyabazinga get married?

Kyabazinga get married

First things first. We need to know the process through which Kyabazinga gets married. Does he go out and get his wife by himself, what happens?

  • Finding the family that the Kyabazinga would marry into is the first step in a procedure that is done by the elders.
  • The elders inside the palace have a duty to look for the “Inhebantu” also known as the King’s wife-to-be.
  • This is an intellectually demanding process that also takes into account the Inhebantu’s parents’ holy matrimony.
  • When selecting the Ihebantu, they also ensure that she has a strong educational foundation, integrity, and a fear of God.
  • It is also intended that both families get together for additional planning following these preliminary steps.
  • Next usually comes the Kukyala, which is the source of the entire marriage ceremony.
  • Right after is the wedding which is conducted in church where the Inhebantu’s brother hands her over to the Kyabazinga.

The last royal wedding in Busoga’s 69-year history took place in 1954 when the late Henry Wako Muloki, the former Kyabazinga, married Alice Kintu Muloki, the third Inhebantu of Busoga.

Nadiope Gabula’s alleged marriage to a woman in Britain

In a recent audio released right after the cultural introduction of the Ihebantu, “he said, “real wife to Kyabazinga,” is heard asserting that she was married to Kyabazinga and that the two have a child together.

She goes on to reveal how she has been financing Kyabazinga’s very expensive lifestyle since 2015. According to her, all the money the new Ihebantu and Kyabazinga have been spending is from her pockets.

Still, in the released audio, Nadiope’s alleged wife is heard saying she is his real wife. She goes ahead to request the newly introduced wife to respect her and quit abusing her. She concludes by saying Nadiope will abandon his new wife and return to her in London where she’s currently residing.

Kyabazinga

Right after this, in a letter to Dr. Stephen Kazimba, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Alison Nadiope’s attorneys asserted that their client was lawfully married in church to the Kyabazinga and that the two conceived children. This was sent ahead of the Busoga royal wedding between the Kyabazinga and Jovia Mutesi.

The solicitors contested the upcoming wedding in a letter dated November 8, 2023. The letter to the Archbishop was received, but Busoga stated in a statement made by Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muvawala that it did not include the marriage certificate that is supposed to be there as evidence of marriage.

A statement from the Busoga kingdom

Press release from Busoga Kingdom

The kingdom declared the contents of the letter to be false and inaccurate, claiming that the Kyabazinga had never wed another person and had never fathered children, either in Uganda or foreign countries.

Dr Muvawala also said that the kingdom has also given attorneys the go-ahead to file lawsuits and criminal complaints against every individual connected to the plot to discredit Kyabazinga.

Amidst all this drama, Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi, an accountant by trade and a former student of Mount Saint Mary’s College Namagunga, wed Gabula on November 18, 2023, in Christ Cathedral Bugembe. This was the kingdom’s first royal wedding since 1956.

Conclusion

This concludes our research on Kyabazinga’s previous marriages. The Basoga community and the general public have been advised to ignore the allegations of Kyabazinga being married to another woman. He advised them to treat the rumours with the contempt deserved.
