Yoweri Museveni is warning bloggers and users of social media against making statements that will undermine the effectiveness of the vaccine.
President Yoweri Museveni has warned social media users mainly bloggers against raising statements aimed at downplaying the effectiveness of the vaccine.
Uganda like many other countries started carrying out vaccination across the country in March this year, however, many citizens more so on social media have written statements describing the Astra Zeneca jab as not only fake but also one that was disregarded in many countries globally.
However, in his Martyrs Day speech on Thursday, Museveni said such talks are lousy and should not be given any hearing.
The president indicated that many Ugandans have already taken jab but there are no results that anyone has died from taking it.
“I urge Ugandans to get vaccinated. We started with the high-risk groups like health workers, teachers, the elderly, security, and people with comorbidities. Our target is to cover over four million people,” Museveni stated via his Twitter handle.
“We, however, should not faint, like those without Hope, but be steadfast at whatever we do. We cannot stand still and lament. Observe Covid-19 Guidelines put in place, be informed, and avoid Social Media Sensationalism about the Corona Pandemic and the Vaccines,” he said.
In addition, he said scientists globally should be hailed for the tremendous job they did so far in ensuring that at least now there are vaccines for the COVID-19.
He said as Ugandans pray and thank God for the role played by the Martyrs, they should also put the scientists in their prayers for God to bless their efforts in a bid to make even more effective vaccines.
“We hail all scientists around the globe for the work done so far and the development of vaccines to safeguard the lives of people and pray that their work will be rewarded by the Almighty God. Today, as we remember and celebrate the martyrs for their display of Courage, Boldness, and Unshaken Determination to stand up for their Faith even in the face of Persecution and Death, may we call upon God to intervene for solutions that can change the COVID-19 story.”
“We all know that economies, across the globe, have been affected by the pandemic, lives have been lost. We are experiencing new stronger strains and scientists are working hard to study and come up with the best solution,” the president added.
Meanwhile, he wished all Christians successful celebrations as they grace the memorable day. He said they should be good servants and practice what they preach.
“Finally, all proceedings leading up to and during the Celebrations are being broadcast on Television for the Faithful to follow from wherever they are. I wish you Happy Celebrations and may God hear our Prayers.”
