The confirmed Coronavirus disease COVID-19 new cases are still rising in Uganda, reaching 23 from 18

Uganda COVID-19 new cases have risen to 23 after Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed more five cases from people who have tested positive.

On Friday night, 5 new cases had been confirmed, with the total number of cases in the country hitting 23. According to Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng’s tweet.

”5 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed bringing the total to 23 cases in Uganda. Out of 227 samples run today at Uganda Virus Research Institute, 222 samples tested negative for COVID-19. Details will follow in a press release to be issued in the morning.”

This comes at a time when neighbouring Kenya recorded its first COVID-19 death of a 66-year-old Kenyan citizen who passed away on Thursday 26th, March 2020 in the afternoon as cases rise to 31.

He was receiving treatment at Agha Khan Hospital intensive Care Unit in Nairobi. He was suffering from diabetes; he arrived in the country on March 13 from South Africa via Swaziland.

South Africa recorded two first deaths of COVID-19 on Friday 27th, March 2020 as the number of confirmed cases rises to 1,000.

“This morning we wake South African up with sad news that we now have our first deaths resulting from COVID-19,” Health Minister, Zweli Mkhiz announced.

In his announcement, the two patients died in Western Cape Province, as South Africa went under countrywide lockdown that begins at midnight.

927 confirmed cases were reported above the 30 per cent rise from the previous day. So, in the move to combat further spread people were ordered to stay home, a total lockdown for three weeks.

But some people seem to have gone against the orders as many were seen going out for their normal businesses, others lining up at food stores on Friday.

United States of America (USA) on Thursday topped up the world in virus cases, overtaking China with 81,782 cases and Italy with 80,589 cases according to Johns Hopkins University

More than 83,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19, edging out Italy, which has filed the huge number of deaths and China where the novel coronavirus emerged in December 2019, in Wuhan City. 

The USA has so far recorded 1,300 deaths, with about 40 per cent Americans under lockdown, slightly lower than China 3,291 and Italy 8,215.

President Donald Trump urged Americans to do their part by practising social distance and wash their hands.

“Stay home. Just relax, stay home. We are waging war on this virus using every financial, scientific, medical, pharmaceutical and military resource, to halt its spread and protect our citizens,” said trump.  

As a result of the rapid spread of the COVID-19 disease in Italy and France, they went into total lockdown since 17th, March.
