Dalton Kaweesa is a Ugandan Journalist, talk show host and news producer. He’s the Deputy Head of News at NBS Television, one of the leading media houses in Uganda.
Kaweesa was appointed to the position on October 1st 2020, he’s also a co-host of the Morning Breeze on NBS Television and the talk show co-host of a Luganda NBS TV programme ‘Barometer’ that happens every Thursdays.
Kaweesa joined NBS Television in 2014 as a presenter and News Producer. Before, he worked with Uganda Radio Network as the Chief Conflict (war) and Political Reporter from April 2012-April 2013.
He worked for Galaxy FM, Juice FM and then later joined NBS Television. His Journalism career nearly spans a decade with experience in print, online, radio and television.
While at the campus he got a part-time job to teach literature at a certain school, so he would sneak out and go teach at both A and O level.
Both in front of a camera and behind the camera, Kaweesa has reported, anchored and produced Current Affairs talk shows. He has the passion to inform, transform society, and as a result, his career has taken him to numerous African countries engaging leaders and change drivers.
Dalton Kaweesa a proud mummy’s boy has also attracted some attention due to the little flower he always accessorizes his suits with. He likes the flower because it accentuates his brand, saying smartness is very important and perception is next to reality.
“I wanted to explore what hadn’t been explored before, and now I can see a few people picking a leaf from me. One of them is my good friend Solomon Sserwanjja.”
Kaweesa is a fashion freak, he usually goes through some fashion magazines to look at what is trending and that’s where he picked the flower idea from.
“I realized it was different from the flower that women accessories with and I decided to give it a try.” In real life, Kaweesa is so passionate about flowers, art and nature.
Kaweesa is a humble person, introvert, and a very quiet person. He’s only outspoken on two occasions; when he’s dealing with his favourite dish which is politics or when he’s talking to his favourite person. But beyond that, he confines himself in books and finding out what’s happening around the globe.
He’s impatient and he wishes he could change that. “When God created me, he forgot to make me patient. My boss tells me to breathe in and breathe out, but I’m seriously impatient.”
Dalton Kaweesa is an inspiration to all the youths out there who would like to join the media industry most especially television stations and take it on as a career.
Early Life and Education
Dalton Kaweesa was born in the central region of Uganda to Zaituni Banura a retired businesswoman from West Nile. His mother tailored him into the person he’s today.
Kaweesa’s father is the late Godfrey Ssempala Kiggwe who was a disciplinarian but unfortunately, he never touched him a lot.
Kaweesa’s father used to emphasize respect and he always forced them to tuck in their shirts including T-Shirts even during weekends.
During his childhood days, Kaweesa’s favourite sport was football but he was discriminated against because he was too fat, and as a result, he resorted to board games; he learnt to play scrabble and chess.
Kaweesa loves and appreciates women.
He gets so aggrieved when someone says or does something degrading to a woman because the biggest part of his life was supported by his mother. He’s referring to himself as a mummy’s boy because his mother gave him direction not in a derogatory way as many people think.
Kaweesa learnt a lot from his mother in terms of fashion. She taught them fashion and reading. “She always tasked me with reading and summarizing for her what was in the papers and it became a habit.”
Dalton Kaweesa attended Nakasero Primary School then Lubiri SS and later joined Makerere University.
Kaweesa holds a degree in English Language and Literature from Makerere University Kampala from 2006-2009, Masters of Arts Degree in Journalism and Communication attained from Makerere University as well.
