DFCU Bank joins Buganda Kingdom’s sponsorship for Kabaka Birthday Run

For the next three-years, DFCU Bank will be the official sponsors of the annual Kabaka Birthday Run event in partnership with the Buganda Kingdom.

In the three years, the run will be purposely to create awareness about Aids/HIV prevalence in Uganda.

Under the theme: “Men against AIDs to save the girl child.” In this campaign, men will be encouraged to take HIV tests, get treated if positive and ultimately protect women against infections.

This was during the launch of the programme at Mengo Bulange where Buganda Kingdom’s offices are located.

Led by its CEO, Mathias Katamba, Dfcu Bank handed over 562,700,000 million Uganda shillings cheque to the Buganda Kingdom, after signing the agreement.

DFCU says the agreement is in line with their Corporate Social Investment intervention area of maternal and child health, in the context of HIV/AIDs.

Katamba in his communication during the official launch of the programme said that there is still much more need for a collaborative effort to carry on the HIV/AIDs campaign.

“Despite the significant progress in the last decade resulting in a 58% decrease in AIDs related deaths and 57% decrease in new infections, there’s a need for more collaborative effort to drive awareness and testing,” Katamba said.

Katamba says long-term wellbeing and uplifting of communities is their priority through testing, care and treatment of HIV/AIDs patients to ensure that no more contractions happen.

“We believe DFCU partnership with the Buganda Kingdom will ensure a sustained understanding that testing for HIV is an essential gateway to HIV prevention, care and treatment. This is in line with our commitment to the long-term wellbeing and uplifting of the communities in which we operate,” he added.

Since its inception, Kabaka Birthday Run has generated more than shs1bn which were given out to finance Fistula awareness campaign and treatment, Sickle cell awareness and testing in Uganda.
