The 33-year-old Edinson Cavani has joined Manchester United on a free transfer, signs a one year deal.

Former Napoli and Paris Saint Germain (PSG) striker, Edinson Cavani has joined Manchester United on a free transfer putting pen to paper on a one year deal with an option for a second as per reports.

The 33-year-old South American international left PSG in June this year after spending seven years at the club scoring up to 200 goals in 301 games across all competitions.

According to a Goal report, Cavani will earn £10 million (€11m/$13m) per season at Old Trafford. The Uruguayan boy could also pocket an extra €2m in bonuses at Old Trafford plus a €4m premium issued on completion of his transfer to Manchester.

The Goal also wrote that the Uruguayan had an offer of €9m (£8m/$10.5m) per season on the table from Atletico where he could have linked up with fellow countryman Luis Suarez, who moved to Wanda Metropolitano from Barcelona last month but he chose to join the red devils.

‘’The prospect of playing under Diego Simeone at Madrid held great appeal to Cavani, but he has ultimately chosen to join the Red Devils due to the superior financial package on offer. Atletico was unable to match United’s bid after exceeding the staff cost limit amid the coronavirus crisis in La Liga, and would first have had to find a buyer for Diego Costa to free up extra funds,’’ a statement from goal’s article read.

For years, Cavani has been revered as one of the most deadly strikers in the world following successfully spells at all his previous clubs including PSG, Napoli and Palermo. The 1.84-meter tall striker has assisted and scored goals at every club he has played for including the Uruguayan national team where he has netted 50 goals in 116 appearances.

He now joins a struggling Manchester United side that is desperate to bounce back from a 6-1 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham on Sunday in addition to other disappointing results including a 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace earlier in the season.

The experienced striker will be determined to make his debut in two weeks with an immediate trip to the St James’ Park to face Newcastle on 17th after the international break. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have a big decision to make on how his striking force will look like.

With the presence of Anthony Martial who has looked extremely good leading the line since last season alongside teammates, Marcus Rashford and Greenwood, Solskjaer might face difficulties selecting his first three frontmen.
