Early Life and Education

Eric Thomas Shawn was born on 12th March 1957 in New York, United States.

Shawn is the son of the late Melba Rae, an actress best known for her lengthy role as Marge Bergman on Search for Tomorrow, and the late Lt. Col. Gilbert Shawn. Lisa Shawn is his sister.

On December 29, 1971, his mother passed away in a New York hospital from a cerebral haemorrhage. After that, his father moved to Orlando, Florida, where he passed away in 2005 at the age of 84. 

He completed his high school education in 1975 at Trinity School in New York City. 

Shawn earned a bachelor’s degree in urban studies from Georgetown University. 

He made a brief appearance as a reporter in the 1990 movie “Gremlins 2: The New Batch” while he was still a student.

While attending Georgetown University, Eric Shawn met Camilla Di Giuseppe Shawn, with whom he is now married. 

The couple got married in a private wedding ceremony in New York in 1999 after being friends for a long time. Oliver, their son, resides in Boston.

Career and Professional Work Experience

Starting in 1989, Eric Shawn worked as a reporter for New York’s WNYW-TV (FOX). He had previously been employed by WPIX-TV and WNYC-TV in New York as an anchor and reporter.

When Fox News Channel first launched in 1996, he joined as Fox Network’s Anchor and Correspondent for Fox News Edge, a Fox News affiliate news service.

Over the past few decades, Shawn has covered a wide range of significant domestic and international stories, including the O. J. Simpson murder case, the 1992 Clinton campaign, the Gulf War, and the Democratic and Republican national conventions.

He has also covered wars in Somalia and the Persian Gulf. 

The shooting of Rabbi Meir Kahane in 1990, the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and New York City bombing plot, the 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers, and the events surrounding 9/11 marked the beginning of his coverage of terrorist attacks against the United States.

Shawn led the team that discovered blood evidence on the floor of the Detroit home where Mafia hitman Frank Sheeran claimed to have shot labour leader Jimmy Hoffa on July 30, 1975, in 2001. 

Shawn’s work resulted in the release of the movie “The Irishman” and the book “I Heard You Paint Houses.” 

He serves as the host of “Riddle: The Search For James R. Hoffa,” a special Fox Nation series centred around the Hoffa case.

Shawn has produced and reported for several documentary specials, including “Riddle: The Search for James R. Hoffa” on the streaming service Fox Nation. He also anchored on Fox News Channel on election night in 2014 and 2016. 

He currently serves as the network’s Senior Correspondent and co-anchors the weekend shows of “America’s News Headquarters” alongside Arthel Neville.

Eric Shawn has become a well-known name in news reporting throughout his multi-decade career. 

For his investigative journalism, Eric Shawn has won multiple Emmys. In recognition of his achievements in journalism, he has also received the Edward R. Murrow Award.

Apart from his career in television journalism, Eric Shawn is a published author of multiple books.

The book “The U.N. Exposed: How the United Nations Sabotages America’s Security and Fails the World. Sentinel,” written by him, was released on May 4, 2006.

Controversies

In a sharp rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s accusations of election meddling, Eric Shawn stated that “there is no evidence of any widespread fraud” and that “America’s democracy was not tampered with.”
