FUFA has officially appointed Mr. Put Paul Joseph as the head coach of the Uganda Cranes on a two-year renewable contract. The announcement was made by FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim at the FUFA Complex, accompanied by FUFA CEO Edgar Watson.
The selection process involved receiving over 150 coaching applications, including two Ugandans. After careful evaluation, Mr. Put Paul Joseph was chosen by the FUFA Executive as the new head coach.
Unlike previous appointments where the Federation selected the backroom staff, this time the coach has been given the authority to appoint his technical staff. Coach Put is bringing five members from Belgium, and Ugandans will be part of the backroom staff in areas such as medical, coaching, and management, though their identities will be communicated later.
The new backroom staff under Coach Put includes:
- Sven De Wilde – Performance Manager
- Mathieu Denis – Physical Fitness Coach
- Gery Osste – Goalkeeping Coach
- Martin Michiel – Physiotherapist
- Jelle Sevenhant – Video Analyst
Coach Put, a Belgian tactician with extensive experience coaching national teams in Africa, expressed his readiness for the role and his confidence in improving the Uganda Cranes’ performance.
His first task with the Uganda Cranes is to lead the team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Guinea and Somalia later this month.
