David Muhoozi was born in Mbarara District on September 27, 1965, in a family of fourteen children.
He was born to Mrs Edinansi Kyomugyemo Rubakuba (mother), and, Mzee Jackson Rubakuba (father), a former police officer.
He is a Munyakole by tribe and grew up in a Christian family.
David Muhoozi is married to Stella Alibatesa Muhoozi, and the couple has four children together.

Education Background
For his O’Level education, David Muhoozi attended Masaka Secondary School and then Mbarara Secondary School.
He then enrolled at Kigezi College Butobere to complete his A-level studies.
Muhoozi enrolled at Makerere University, where he earned his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
He was also granted a diploma in legal practice by the Law Development Center located in Kampala, Uganda.
Muhoozi also holds a Master’s degree from the University of Ghana, Legon in International Affairs and King’s College London in arts (international studies).
He took his Officer Cadet course at the Uganda Military Academy when it was still in Jinja from 1988 to 1989.
Following his completion of the officer cadet course, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1989.

Gen. David Muhoozi enlisted in the military in 1985, and on April 21, 1989, he was promoted.
He worked as the Defence Attorney at the General Court Martial, a military court located in the Makindye military barracks, from 1996 to 1997.
In 1997, he was given the Staff Officer General Duties position at the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), where he spent the following four years.
Gen. David Muhoozi also held the positions of Motorized Infantry Brigade Commander from 2006 to 2007, Chief of Staff of the Air Force in 2008, Armored Brigade Commander from 2008 to 2011, and Commander of the Air Defence Division from 2011 to 2013.
From 2013 to 2017, Gen. Muhoozi was the UPDF’s Commander of the Land Forces (CLF).

He was instrumental in the organization, deployment, and oversight of Ugandan war units—which comprise the majority of the AMISOM-led African Union efforts to impose peace in Somalia—in his capacity as Commander of Land Forces.
Controversies
Gen. David Muhoozi is one of Uganda’s most moderate and level-headed officers, having very few or no controversial circumstances.
However, his reputation was put in jeopardy after he made a contentious statement about missing Ugandans in December 2023.
General David Muhoozi also made headlines in 2020 for his dubious business ties with Moses Nkonge Kibalama, the contentious founder of the NUP, a political organization he turned over to Robert Kyagulanyi, the leader of the opposition.
