Gen.Jeje Odongo said Wednesday that the investigators are yet to establish the officers who were behind the death of Isaac Ssenyange alias Zebra.
The Minister of Internal Affairs, Gen.Jeje Odongo said Wednesday that the investigators are yet to establish the officers who were behind the death of Isaac Ssenyange alias Zebra, a former national team boxing champion.
Zebra was reportedly shot dead by gunmen in Bwaise, a suburb area in Kampala on 30th December 2020.
Following his death, the police released a statement confirming that they had collected crucial pieces of evidence and cartridges from the scene to help with the investigations.
“Our task team of intelligence and investigating officers have started the process of building on the evidence collected with an aim of identifying the assailants behind the murder of Zebra,” Luke Owoyesigyire the Assistant Police Spokesperson said then.
A day later during his new year message, President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni also spoke about the boxer’s murder.
Museveni established that part of the investigations proved that Zebra was killed by a security operative.
Museveni explained that following Zebra’s death, he telephoned his wife who told him that people in police uniform came to pick her late husband but out of fear he (Zebra) jumped over the wall and that is where he met a group which shot at him.
“When I heard of the unfortunate death of Isaac Ssenyange alias Mando Zebra, Uganda’s boxer and former captain of the Bombers. I telephoned his wife who narrated to me the events in detail,” Museveni said during his New Year address to the nation.
“Zebra’s wife told me people in police uniform came to pick Zebra but he jumped over the wall and could have met another group who shot him. At first I thought they were thugs disguising in uniform, but as I continued investigations, I found out that Zebra was killed by security personnel,” he added.

However, while addressing journalists earlier this week, the Internal Affairs Minister said that they are still trying to investigate which particular security operative reportedly shot at the boxer.
Odongo who was quick to cite that investigation take time, begged the general public to avail the investigators more time to make proper research before they can come to any conclusion on the matter.
“Investigations sometimes take a bit of time and we would like to inform you that investigations into the matter are still continuing. It would be wrong to rush and come out with wrong analysis,” Odongo cited.
“In order for justice to be dispensed, we must be able to go step by step. It is true the president accepted responsibility it was security agencies. We are trying to investigate who it was in security agencies to take responsibility.”
