George Baguma, sometimes known as George W. Baguma, is a Ugandan entrepreneur, scientist, marketing strategist, and businessman.
Baguma currently serves as Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited (CQCIL)’s Chief Commercial Officer and Marketing Director.
George Baguma is also a co-founder of QCIL and a member of its board of directors.
Early Life and Education
George Baguma was born in Buganda, Central Uganda in 1955.
He is a married man with children.
Baguma graduated from Makerere University, Uganda’s largest and oldest public university with a bachelor’s degree in botany and zoology and a postgraduate diploma.
He also possesses a Master of Science degree in Entomology and a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Parasitology degree from the Imperial College of Science, Technology, and Medicine in London.
George Baguma also worked as a lecturer at Makerere University.
Career and Professional Work Experience

George Baguma has over twenty-five years of expertise in the human, animal, agriculture, and public health industries in both technical and marketing capacities.
Baguma initially worked for the Uganda Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industries, and Fisheries. He served in the role of a deputy commissioner in the Directorate of Animal Resources.
Baguma was the Chief Commercial Officer at Quality Chemicals Limited from 2000 to 2005.
He was also the Chief Commercial Officer and Director of Marketing at Quality Chemical Industries Limited from 2005 to 2013. George Baguma has been the Director of Marketing at CQCIL since its creation.
Cipla boosted their interest in QCIL to a controlling 51.05 per cent ownership in November 2013. To reflect the increased holdings, the firm name was changed to Cipla Quality Chemicals Industries Limited (CQCIL).
Baguma retained his role as a CQCIL board member and chief commercial officer.
Achievements and Awards

George Baguma is one of five co-founders of Quality Chemicals Industries (QCIL), which was established in 1997 to import and market human and animal pharmaceutical products.
As the company grew, it transitioned from primarily importing and selling animal pharmaceuticals such as antibiotics and dewormers to being an agent for CIPLA Ltd (India), selling ARVs and anti-malarial drugs in Uganda. Emmanuel Katongole, Francis Kitaka, Edward Martin, Randall Tierney, and Frederick Kitaka Mutebi are the other co-founders of QCIL.
George Baguma is a founding investor of QCIL and a member of the company’s Board of Directors. As a co-founder of the company, he owns a 2.79 per cent share in it.
He is also the first Director (Commercial Affairs) of Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited (CQCIL), a WHO-certified pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. CQCIL is Sub-Saharan Africa’s sole pharmaceutical business licenced to manufacture triple therapy antiretroviral medicine. The company also produces antimalarial medicine for dual therapy.
George Baguma is the third richest person in Uganda to possess equities listed on the Uganda Stock Exchange, after Sudhir Ruparelia and Emmanuel Katongole, according to figures gathered from investment firms, the most recent annual reports, and confirmations from capital market registrars in August 2021.
On the Uganda Stock Exchange, he has a net worth of $2.74 million.
