Early Life
Born on March 19, 1986, in Kampala, Uganda, Sharifah Buzeki grew up in a modest Muslim household with origins from Bukakande village, Kamuli District.
She is the daughter of Sheikh Salim Bukyanagandi, a respected teacher at Bugembe Islamic Theological Institute in Jinja, where he served for more than 30 years.

Education Background
For her secondary education, Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki attended Wanyange Girls School, where she first became involved in student leadership.
She was elected as the secretary-general for the Uganda secondary schools’ prefects club, which aimed to promote student leadership.
She later earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences, a Master’s in Public Administration and Management, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, all from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).
During her time at IUIU, she remained active in student politics, serving as the Female Vice President of the Students’ Guild, and later worked as a female warden.

Beyond her academic studies, Sharifah has enriched her expertise through professional training in areas such as Conflict Resolution, Leadership and Change Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Training of Trainers, and Facilitation Skills.

Career and Professional Work Experience
After completing her studies, Hajjat Buzeki transitioned smoothly from student leadership into public service. She has built over 13 years of experience in human resource management and public administration at both local and central government levels.
Before her KCCA appointment, she was the Commissioner for Human Resource Management in the Inspection Department of the Ministry of Public Service (MoPS).
In this role, she spearheaded inspection programs, introduced the Pearl of Africa Performance Scorecard to monitor institutional performance, and guided Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Local Governments in adopting results-based management, output-oriented budgeting, and best service delivery standards.
She was also instrumental in the development and implementation of Client Charters.
In December 2024, President Yoweri Museveni appointed Buzeki as the new Executive Director of KCCA.
Sharifah Buzeki was officially sworn in on January 8, 2025, at a ceremony presided over by Lucy Nakyobe, the Head of Public Service.
During her swearing-in ceremony, she highlighted waste management as a key priority, mentioning the need for new disposal sites, innovative solutions, and waste-to-energy projects.
She also committed to focusing on the digitalization of public services, urban planning, security, and combating corruption at KCCA.
As Executive Director at KCCA, she is currently responsible for overseeing the management and operations of Uganda’s capital city, ensuring efficient service and driving urban development initiatives.
