Activities at Heritage Safari lodge

At the Lodge, guests can look forward to a wide range of fun things to do. Among these and more are;

Game drives

Enjoy the spectacular scenery and an exciting safari experience from the comfort and safety of a stylish, robust, cross-country game vehicle that enhances your enjoyment of the Murchison Falls National Park.

From your holiday base, you can choose to go on a game drive in the park, which is only five minutes away by car. A game drive booked at Heritage Safari lodge for a minimum of 2 people costs $80.

Birding

When it comes to birdwatching in Uganda and Africa more generally, Murchison Falls National Park is hard to beat. A total of over 350 bird species have been spotted in the park, including 23 that are unique to the Albertine region.

In the company of a knowledgeable birding guide, you’ll have the chance to look for some of the more well-known bird species in the park.

Nature walks

The lodge was built with a variety of outdoor activities in mind, so it features paths for walking, biking, canoeing, boating, and even aerobics on the riverbank.

The wildlife of the Murchison Murchison Falls Conservation Area is best experienced on foot, and nature hikes offer some of the greatest and closest views possible.

From the lodge, a path leads down through the gullies and over the low hills to the river.

It’s possible to silently and closely view a variety of animals, birds, and plants.

Also, there are some accessible walkways around the surrounding natural environment in places like Rabongo Forest, Kaniyo Pabidi Forest, and the Top of the Falls.

These hikes in the wild require ranger guides from Uganda Wildlife Authority. A guided nature walk booked at the lodge costs $20 per person.

Getting to see Murchison Falls

The highlight of your trip to Murchison Falls National Park should be a visit to “Murchison Falls,” a spot along the Nile within the park where the river Nile squeezes through a 7-meter-gorge.

The launch boat cruise upstream is exhilarating and provides wonderful views of the falls and several wildlife species found along the riverbanks, such as buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks, and birds.

Board games

You will get the opportunity to play the most popular local and international board and card games around a campfire at Heritage Safari Lodge.

Fishing

The river Nile is perhaps one of the best fishing sites in Uganda. Nile Perch, Tilapia, and Tiger fish are generally caught by casting lures or using live bait.

Fishing in Uganda is great due to the opportunity to observe Africa’s renowned wildlife and breath-taking landscape.

The chance of seeing deadly species such as crocodiles enhances the excitement and adventure of the journeys.

However, safety is crucial, and anglers are typically accompanied by armed park rangers in the event that they encounter hippos, crocodiles, buffaloes, or elephants.

Anglers avoid crocodile-infested stretches of the river.

Sport fishing for a minimum of 2 people costs $100.

A trip to the Heritage Hot Springs

At the head of the Kamshiko River, the Heritage Hot Spring is a natural sanctuary for elephants. The ready-made, warm, salty spring water is the “salt lick,” from which more than 200 litres are consumed in a single drink.

To visit the Heritage hot spring, you pay $5 per person.

Music, dance and drama

The Acholi people have a culture consisting of various customs and traditions, one of which is their nationally renowned Larakaraka dance.

Dancing has historically been an integral component of the Acholi culture, as entire villages include dance in their rituals and festivities.

In addition to the dancing itself, the attire and other adornments, such as anklet bells and beaded necklaces, as well as the musical instruments, become integral components of the dance.

Among the traditional Acholi dances are;

  • Larakaraka – a wooing dance performed with calabashes (huge hollowed gourds) and drums by an inner circle of ladies and an outer circle of males.
  • Dingi Dingi Is a more free creative dance done after the harvest. It’s frequently performed by younger girls dancing in a line.
  • Bwola is the most important ceremonial dance, performed in front of the chief (or, more recently, an important guest of honour) in order to honour him and his guests. The dance derives its name from the small bwola drums played by the guys.

At Heritage Safari Lodge, you will be able to immerse yourself in this vibrant culture, right down to the traditional rituals of the local Acholi people.
