1. Getting Started

If you don’t already have one, you’ll need a Google account to use Google Classroom. Simply go to the Google sign-up page, fill in your information, and create an account.

Stream: The Stream is your class’s main page, where announcements, assignments, and important information are displayed. It’s a chronological feed of activity in the class.

Classwork: This tab is where you’ll organize and manage your assignments, questions, and materials. You can create, edit, and delete assignments from here.

People: The People tab displays a list of all the students and teachers in your class. You can invite students to join, remove them, or adjust their roles.

Grades: This section allows you to review and grade assignments submitted by students. You can also provide feedback here.

3. Creating and Managing Classes

Now that you’re familiar with the dashboard, let’s explore how to create and manage classes:

To create a new class, click on the ‘+’ icon on the top-right corner of the dashboard. Enter the class name, section, subject, and room. You can also include a class description and customize the class image.

Once your class is created, you’ll need to invite students to join. Click on the class you want to add students to, then click on the ‘People’ tab. You can invite students by email or by sharing a class code.

You can customize various settings for each class, such as grading, stream notifications, and class permissions. Click on the ‘Settings’ gear icon within the class to access these options.

4. Creating Assignments

Assignments are at the core of Google Classroom. Here’s how to create and manage them:

In your class, go to the ‘Classwork’ tab and click the ‘+ Create’ button. Select ‘Assignment’ from the dropdown menu.

Give your assignment a title and add detailed instructions. You can attach files, links, or materials from your Google Drive. Set the due date and point value for the assignment.

Choose the students or classes you want to assign the task to. You can assign it immediately or schedule it for a later date.

After an assignment is posted, you can view, edit, or delete it from the ‘Classwork’ tab. You can also see which students have turned in their work and provide feedback and grades.

You can post announcements in the Stream to share important updates or information with your class. Simply click on the ‘Announcement’ option when creating a post.

Students receive email notifications for new assignments and announcements. You can also email individual students directly from the ‘People’ tab.

When students submit assignments, their work is stored in Google Drive. You can access and grade these submissions from within the assignment in Google Classroom.

In the ‘Classwork’ tab, you can see all your assignments listed with due dates and status indicators. You can easily identify which students have completed their work.

When you click on an assignment, you can view all the submissions. You can provide feedback and assign grades directly within Google Classroom.

If you need to export grades to another system, you can do so by clicking the ‘Export’ button on the ‘Grades’ tab. This creates a CSV file that can be imported into most gradebook software.

Keep your Google Drive and Google Classroom materials well-organized. Use clear naming conventions for files and folders.
