Enanga says opposition equally provokes the Uganda Police leading to their inhuman actions (brutality)

Uganda Police earlier confirmed that it was in a mental check drive in the force to test the levels of stress of its officers following the recent outburst from the public against the brutality video that went viral on different platforms of officers beating up a citizen.

The Uganda Police Force was in partnership with Makerere University Psychology Professors led by Prof Edward Bantu. They conducted a mental assessment exercise on some officers from four critical units.

It’s alleged that the brutality of officers during the execution of their duties particularly on opposition politicians was a key driver in the assessment exercise.

“Some of them may be inhibiting some levels of stress which have been assessed because it can affect their performance,” Prof Bantu said.

However, before the report is processed by the public, there was another viral incidence involving the FDC mobiliser beaten by Police officers, according to Police the viral video is authentic and the Police officers have already been arrested.

“We have arrested the officer who was involved in the use of excessive force during arrest, he is being charged for assault on charges of torture under the torture Act,” Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga said.

However, Enanga claims although some Police officers are ill-mannered, at times the opposition equally provokes the Police leading to their inhuman actions.

“They were ordered to vacate a place, of course, these are public places and people have their businesses there,” Enanga said.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party spokesperson, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, however, warned that the Police officer seen brutalising their mobiliser will be prosecuted.

“We are adding him on the list of those we are seeking to prosecute,” Ssemujju said.

Ssemujju adds that they have invested a lot in recording equipment so Police has to be careful with their actions.

“And I want to give Police notice that we have invested heavily in recording equipment. So, they don’t know who is going to record the next,” Ssemujju said.

In the recent human right report, Police has always been figured as one of the institutions that abuse human rights and has constantly promised to change with the Police Chief, Martin Okoth Ochola warning his men that they will personally be held liable.
