Career and Professional Work Experience

John Segawa’s first job was as a Fine Art and General Paper teacher at Pride Academy and Mengo Senior High School.  In 1994, he began acting in the performing arts with Afri- Talent, where he also served as director, set designer, and stage manager.

He is now a businessman in the arts. He is currently the Operations Director at Beyond Borders Entertainment.

John Segawa is the director, stage manager, and performer of Afri-talent, one of the main local theatrical groups.

When Afri-Diamonds was still alive, Segawa shared the stage with seasoned actors like Abby Mukiibi, Mariam Ndagire, Ashraf Ssemwogerere, and Kato Lubwama. The fans came to know him then.

Afri-diamonds members disagreed in 2000, and the group separated, resulting in the formation of Afri-talent and Diamond’s Ensemble.

It only took Segawa two years to establish his genius on stage and in management. With Mpereketta, a populist drama on Buganda’s land issues, his company became a success in 1997.

His fame skyrocketed as a result of his impressive personal achievements. Segawa has remained in the theatre while most of his colleagues have moved on to FM stations or music.

He went through this when he worked as a producer at Radio Two, only to depart eight months later and return to his Bat Valley theatrical office.
