While in this role, he played a crucial role in managing media relations and countering misinformation especially during the highly charged 2016 General Elections.
He regularly appeared in press briefings, television interviews, and stakeholder meetings to clarify the Commission’s stance and procedures.
Taremwa’s tenure at the Electoral Commission concluded in an abrupt manner around July 2020. Following his departure, the role of spokesperson was temporarily taken up by Mr. Paul Bukenya.
After he served as spokesperson, Taremwa continued to contribute to national dialogue on governance, elections, and institutional communication. He later leveraged his name recognition and expertise to transition into active politics.
He entered the race for elective office, securing nomination to contest for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag for the Member of Parliament seat in the Nyabushozi Constituency, Kiruhura District.
His political campaign was founded on three pillars focused on community unity, effective lobbying for resources, and being a crucial connector between the people of Nyabushozi and the government.
However, after the NRM primaries concluded, the incumbent MP Wilson Kajwengye was the elected NRM flag bearer, a result Jotham disagreed with on the grounds of a lack of a free and fair election.
He took the case to court and threatened to bounce back. Court trials, however, ruled out any form of election malpractice, making him go back to square one.
Before joining the EC, Taremwa had held positions in public communication and media, working to bridge the gap between government agencies and the public.
