He is currently the joint managing director and CEO of the Tirupati Group of companies in Uganda, which operates shopping malls, housing complexes, apartments, business parks, and hospitals.
Early Life and Education

Miraj Barot was born in 1988 in India. He was born in a remote village in India and moved with his family to Uganda when he was only six years old.
Harshad Barot, the founder and chairman of Tirupati Group Limited, is his father. His mother is Parul Harshadkumar Barot. Miraj’s paternal grandmother, Leelaben Maganbhai Barot, died in June 2023 at the age of 94.
Miraj’s sister, Juhi Barot, is the proprietor of the Leela Foundation Uganda, a non-profit organisation dedicated to the care of the elderly named after their grandmother.
Miraj was a toddler when his family moved to Uganda in 1994. He attended Ugandan schools but dropped out early.
Miraj attended Aga Khan Primary and Secondary Schools before enrolling in Hillside Academy, where he completed his A-level studies.
He began helping run the family business empire in 2003 when he was 14 years old. Miraj did not pursue his schooling after his A-levels since he had to handle his father’s business enterprise.
Kruti Bharat Rao is Miraj Barot’s wife. Their wedding took place in India on December 11, 2013.
When the couple returned to Uganda, they hosted a spectacular reception for their affluent friends and acquaintances on 10 January 2014 at the Uganda Serena Hotel.
Career and Professional Work Experience
Miraj has been intimately involved with the family businesses since 2006.
He invested part of his personal wealth in TGL when it was founded in 2006 and served as its first Marketing Director.
He then became TGL’s co-chief executive officer. In November 2013, he was appointed CEO of Tirupati and two other companies in the expanding family-owned conglomerate. He is also a shareholder in Tirupati Development, and his father currently serves as an advisor to the company.
Under the Tirupati brand, the business has built a slew of huge commercial, residential, and office buildings throughout the city, including the Ovino Shopping Mall in Kisenyi, the Tirupati Mazima Mall in Kabalagala, and exquisite residential flats in Naguru and Naalya among others.
Miraj Barot is also the managing director and CEO of Virat Alloys Limited, a steel manufacturing and metal fabrication company that purchased the former Sembule Steel Mills’ assets and stock.
Miraj decided to create his own business, Tulip, after successfully running his father’s business empire. Tulip has a presence in India. He is overall a director of eight firms, some of which are based in India.

Achievements and Awards
Miraj Barot is one of Uganda’s youngest billionaires. In 2012, his net worth was reported to be $15 million.
He is well-known for his spectacular Landmark Real Estate Projects in Uganda, which include housing complexes, shopping malls, and industrial parks. Thousands of Ugandans rely on his business for a living.
He has received various honours throughout the years, including the Uganda Investment Authority’s Investor of the Year award in 2009 for the development of a unique and competitive product in the East African Region.
He was awarded Investor of the Year in 2010 for Bio-Waste Management for the creative concept of Uganda’s first bio-waste medical facility.
Uganda Investment Authority awarded him the Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2012.
In 2014, Miraj Barot received the Africa Leadership Award.
Governor of Gujarat, Honourable Om Prakash Kohli, bestowed the Glory of Gujarat award on him in 2015.
A Road in Kampala, Uganda, MIRAJ CLOSE was named after him for his contribution to the community’s and Uganda’s overall growth in 2020.
