President Museveni made the remarks on Sunday during his address to the nation, saying Uganda’s vaccine will be better than some of these vaccines.

President Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni has revealed that the country is in its advanced stages to process a COVID-19 vaccine that will be the most effective worldwide.

President Museveni made the remarks on Sunday during his address to the nation. He said that even though the country is trying very hard to purchase enough vaccines from other countries, endeavours are also in high gear to see even better vaccines manufactured inside the country.

“In Uganda, we are also working on the treatment. As I speak now, something interesting is going on. Our vaccine will be better than some of these vaccines. What we are targeting is the new version of the virus since it has been mutating,” Museveni said.

Also, he said that the health ministry has done a tremendous job in tackling the pandemic. Museveni noted that almost all COVID-19 patients countrywide have now healed from the virus. He said currently there are only 24 patients countrywide.

He justified that this shows the health personnel including scientists have done a good job because most patients did not require oxygen machines for their survival.

“All the patients our people have been treating have been cured by combining the standard treatment plus our own. Out of the 24 in the hospitals, only 8 are a bit severe. Not to the extent of needing machines but just needing a little more care,” Museveni added.

The president further congratulated the general public for the tremendous role played in tackling the pandemic. He said the government also took the virus very seriously from the start that is why it has not hit the country hard.

“I want to congratulate you for listening to our advice. In the meantime please, observe the SOPs until you have gotten the full dosage of the vaccine. Because you listened to our advice, in the last year, we have had just over 40,000 people infected with this virus. Over 12,000 people have been discharged. We have lost 334 people,” Museveni disclosed.

“In other countries, they have lost a lot of people. I think as I speak, more than 2 million people have died in the world and more than 100 million people have been infected by the virus. I told you that if we were disciplined, we would defeat this disease. I then announced many measures to keep us safe. I am glad that very many Ugandans understood and supported it.”
