Multichoice Uganda has raised its subscription fees for some of its DSTV and GOTV packages.
Multichoice Uganda has announced an adjustment in subscription fees for some of its viewing packages on both DSTV and GOTV.
The new changes which take effect on September 01 announced earlier this month by the Public Relations and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Joan Semanda through an email to the New Vision.
She said the decision to hike the prices was taken following a tough operating climate for the business. Semanda said the move was also sanctioned by the industry regulator, Uganda Communications Commission.
“I can confirm that both DSTV and GOTV have adjusted the prices of some of its packages for 2021. We have taken into account the rate of consumer inflation and current economic pressures facing Ugandans when considering the annual price adjustments,” she said.
“The updated fee schedule sees adjustments of an average of 6% for the DSTV and GOTV customers. DSTV and GOTV acknowledge their Ugandan customers, and consumers in general, remain under extreme pressure and have endeavored to keep increases below inflation where possible,” she added.
The 6% hike now means customers will now have to dig deeper into their pockets to secure subscription fees. Previously, the cheapest and most affordable DSTV package was going for sh35,000 but now because of the hike, customers will be required to pay an extra sh2000 pushing the price to sh37,000.
Relatively, DSTV Premium customers will now have to pay sh239000 up from sh227000 per month according to the new adjustments.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the cheapest GOTV package has been going for sh12,000 but now customers will be required to pay an extra sh1000 pushing the figure to sh13,000. For those paying for the same package but for three months (quarterly), they will be charged sh31,000 up from the previous sh28,000.
Rooted in Ugandan, MultiChoice Uganda is 100% owned by MultiChoice Africa Holdings. The company is home to the prominent GOtv and Dstv.
For years, DSTV like its junior GOTV has been the main go-to for most people in Africa when it comes to watching sports and entertainment shows that cut across the whole world.
In Uganda for example, a big number of individuals and households subscribe to the satellite to enable them to watch live football games preferably the English premier league and the Spanish Laliga.
