Nick Wiggins also known as Nicholas Wiggins is a Canadian professional basketball player. He most recently played for the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Brampton Honey Badgers. Nick Wiggins also played basketball for Wichita State University.

Early Life and Family

Nick Wiggins was born on February 4, 1991 and was raised in Toronto, Ontario. At Florida State, his father Mitchell Wiggins was an honorable mention All-American who later played six seasons in the NBA. 

At the 1984 Olympic Games, his mother Marita Payne, a 21-time NCAA All-American sprinter, won two silver medals for Canada.

Nick Wiggins has three sisters; Stephanie, Angelica, and Taya Wiggins plus two brothers Mitchell and Andrew Wiggins. In the 2014 NBA Draft, his brother Andrew Wiggins who is younger than him by four years was taken as the first overall choice.

Basketball Career at School 

Nick Wiggins played for his high school hoops at Vaughan Secondary School before moving to Florida for his junior year at Godby High School in Tallahassee. At Godby, Wiggins was one of the Sunshine State’s top prep players in 2008 to 2009.

After averaging 16.6 points per game as freshman at Vincennes University in 2010 to 2011, Wiggins moved to Wabash Valley JC for his sophomore year in 2011 to 2012. He led the Warriors to a 27-10 record and an eighth-place finish in the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson. He averaged 17.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game and was named second-team All-American.

He was subsequently named to the NJCAA all-tournament team after averaging 20.2 points. Nick Wiggins then transferred to Wichita State for his junior year, where he earned MVC All-Bench team accolades after averaging 4.9 points and 1.8 rebounds in 36 games. In 2013 to 2014, he played 36 games as a senior, averaging 5.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

Professional Basketball CareerGermany

Wiggins joined the Sacramento Kings for the 2014 NBA Summer League after going undrafted in the 2014 NBA draft. He signed a one-year contract with Tigers Tübingen of the German Basketball Bundesliga on July 26, 2014. 

He was released by the club on December 3, 2014, after appearing in 11 games. He averaged 5.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in those 11 contests.

The NBA D-League

Wiggins was acquired by the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League on January 9, 2015. He averaged 9.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game in 28 games for Idaho in 2014 to 2015.

Wiggins joined the Utah Jazz for the Utah Summer League and the Minnesota Timberwolves for the Las Vegas Summer League in July 2015. He signed with the Timberwolves on September 18, 2015, but was released on October 24, 2015, after competing in four preseason games. 

He returned to the Stampede on November 1, but was waived on November 11. He was then acquired by Raptors 905 two days later. After appearing in 10 games, he was dismissed by Raptors 905 on December 26. He averaged 4.0 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in the ten contests.

Australia and New Zealand

Nick Wiggins joined the Canterbury Rams for the 2016 New Zealand NBL season on January 26, 2016. However, he was released by the Rams on March 7, only days before the start of the season.

He then signed with the Mackay Meteors for the 2016 Queensland Basketball League season a day after being released by the Rams. He made his Meteors debut on April 30, scoring 23 points in 30 minutes of action as a starter in a 96-86 loss to the Cairns Marlins. 

On May 15, he scored 32 points in a 107-89 victory over the Rockhampton Rockets.

He was dismissed by the Meteors on June 8 after the team went 4-4 in the first half of the season. Wiggins averaged 21.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game in those eight games.

Macedonia

Nick Wiggins signed a short-term contract with Rabotniki of the Macedonian First League in October 2016. The club parted ways with Wiggins on December 25, 2016, after electing not to extend his contract. He averaged 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game in eight games for Rabotniki.

Canada

Nick Wiggins then joined the Orangeville A’s of the National Basketball League of Canada in January 2017. In less than a month with Orangeville, he averaged 5.8 points in eight games.

Throughout his career, Nick Wiggins has played for nine different professional basketball teams.He played college basketball for three different teams before declaring for the draft.
