National Water and Sewage Cooperation (NWSC) to construct mega third water treatment plant on Lake Victoria
National Water and Sewage Cooperation (NWSC) is set to construct the third National Water mega treatment plant on the shores of Lake Victoria, a plan that’s will increase water production capacity to at least 500 million litres a day to increase water supply in Kampala.
Uganda is blessed with mega water bodies which include Lake Victoria, L. Kyoga and River Nile. But the country is still struggling with access to clean water and sanitation because water production is low compared to the demand.
“We were also aware of that fact, and we are also already in advanced stages working to put another treatment plant on Lake Victoria, and that will add another 135 million litres of water pumping. So, that will give us more than 500 million litres of water per day, which will be

Just like NWSC the United Nations (UN) is as well concerned about the low access to clean water and sanitation in the country.

According to statistics 8 per cent of wastewater being disposed to the water, bodies have a risk to the environment which calls for major investment in the water sector to address the problem.
“Clearly you can say that the government is doing a lot to make sure that we match up with the demand. And as we increase our industry of production, the water demand will increase,” Mugisha noted.

And according to Doreen Mulenga, Country’s Representative UNICEF investing in water and environment can as well increase the country’s GDP by 9 per cent by 2040.
“But what I would like to underscore is that investment in water and environment is also not only keeps us safe but it can yield huge economic dividends such as increasing per capita GDP by 9 per cent by 2040, increasing the productivity of fisheries by almost 60 per cent by 2040

Young Water Professionals 2025, the National Water and Sewage Corporation resource centre, the Chief of Defense Forces Gen David Muhoozi while addressing the Young Water Professionals at the NWSC resource centre said efforts must be joined to ensure environmental protection for good water quality in the country.
“So, we need to reclaim these wetlands, the other day people who occupied Lubigi, I don’t know if you remember, it took the force of law to eject them, its lack of consciousness because somebody could even think about the danger we face when we encroach them,” Gen Muhoozi said.
