Death of Boxer Zebra Ssenyange
Isaac Zebra Ssenyange was shot dead at his home by unknown gunmen.

Luke Owoyesigyire said that they have commenced investigations to determine the true people behind the death of Zebra Ssenyange. 

Police have started investigations to determine the assailants behind the death of Zebra Ssenyange, a former national team boxing champion.

The skipper also known as Isaac Ssenyange was shot dead by yet to be established gunmen in Bwaise, a suburb area in Kampala during the wee hours of Wednesday, 30th December 2020.

According to a police statement released on Wednesday morning, Luke Owoyesigyire the Assistant Police Spokesperson said that they have commenced investigations to determine the true people behind the death of Zebra Ssenyange.

Owoyesigyire said that the area police have already documented the scene and crucial pieces of evidence and cartridges have been recovered to help with the investigations.

“The area police responded and have already documented the scene. Crucial pieces of evidence and cartridges have been recovered from the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to City mortuary Mulago for a post mortem,” Owoyesigire said.

“Our task team of intelligence and investigating officers have started the process of building on the evidence collected with an aim of identifying the assailants behind the murder of Zebra. More details will be communicated as investigations progress.”

Owoyesigire however, noted that eyewitnesses alleged that the deceased was picked from his home on 30th December 2020 at around 1 am by unidentified assailants who were travelling in two vehicles. 

The police spokesperson said that the deceased was later shot 400 meters away from his home.  

“The territorial Police in Kawempe are investigating a suspected murder case by shooting of one Zebra Senyange, a boxer and resident of St. Francis Zone, Bwaise III Parish,” Owoyesigire added.

“According to eyewitnesses, they allege that the deceased was picked from his home on 30/12/2020 at around 1am in the morning by unidentified assailants, not known in number. They were travelling in two vehicles. He was later shot 400 meters away from his home and he died instantly.”

A brief about Zebra Ssenyange

Ssenyange, 39, is best remembered for having captained the Bombers to the 10th All Africa Games hosted in Maputo, Mozambique in 2011. 

His fifteen-year amateur career was highlighted by 195 wins and 19 losses before turning professional when he debuted against Kenya’s Patrick Amote in 2012.

At the time of his death, Mando Ssenyange has been employed by the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) as the in-charge of general duties as he also coordinated his own Zebra Boxing Club.
