Prince David Wasajja, also known as Prince Daudi Kintu Wasajja, is the prince of Buganda, Uganda’s biggest traditional kingdom.
He is the younger brother of Muwenda Mutebi II, the reigning Kabaka of Buganda.
Early Life and Education

Prince David Wasajja was born on August 19, 1966, in Kampala, Uganda.
He is the youngest son of Ankole Princess Winifred Keihangwe and the late Kabaka Muteesa II, the 35th Kabaka of the Kingdom of Buganda.
In 1966, when Milton Obote’s soldiers invaded the Mengo Palace, Prince David Wasajja was still in the womb. His pregnant mother, unable to flee, was captured and imprisoned in Luzira Prison for several days before giving birth, only to be released a few hours later.
His father, the Kabaka, had fled the burning fort in disguise.
Prince Wasajja graduated from the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.
He is a Roman Catholic by faith, having converted to following his mother who was also a Roman Catholic.
Career and Professional Work Experience
After returning home in 1996, Prince David Wasajja was immediately named executive underwriter for Pan World Insurance.
Later, he was appointed as Celtel’s retail regional manager.
As a prince, he has represented his brother, the current Kabaka, at high-profile events such as Muhoozi Kainerugaba and Charlotte Kuteesa’s wedding.
In September 2009, he accompanied his brother to crisis negotiations held by the Kingdom of Buganda and the Republic of Uganda in response to unrest in Kampala over the status of the renegade Kayunga District and the closing of a royalist Buganda radio station.
Marriage Life

On April 25, 2013, Prince Wasajja married Marion Elizabeth Nankya, the daughter of Mathias Nsubuga Birekeraawo, the then Member of Parliament for Bukoto South, and Jolly Kawaya Nsubuga.
The wedding took place at Rubaga Cathedral, followed by a celebration at the Kabaka’s official house in Mengo.
It was also the first time the Kabaka had attended both the church and the reception, as he is not meant to attend such events.
Princess Nankya gave birth to a baby boy on January 18, 2014, at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
Prince Edward Mbogo was named after his late grandfather, Sir Edward Mutesa (Muteesa II of Buganda) and his late great-grandfather, Nuuhu Mbogo, a notable Buganda prince and leader of Islam in Buganda as well as Kabaka Mwanga’s brother.
Princess Marion Nankya gave birth to their second child, a baby girl, in Nakasero Hospital Uganda in May 2016. She was named after her grandmother, Sarah Ndagire.
Achievements and Awards
Prince David Wasajja is considered proof of the deep link between the Buganda and Ankole Kingdoms.
According to local media, Prince Wasajja is one of the quirky “Hash Harriers,” a gang of Kampala socialites. He is also an ardent runner and shooter.
Tragedies
On November 24, 2018, Prince David Wasaijja survived a Lake Victoria tragedy in which a cruise boat carrying the revellers sank in Mpatta Sub-county, Mukono region, killing 33 persons.
