Controversies

On social media, Ssangalyambogo has been bombarded with derogatory remarks. She is also known as Uganda’s most unusual TikTok princess.
She uploaded a 10-second video in which she spoke a mixture of English and her native Luganda, unusual for a Buganda Kingdom princess. The punch came from her foreign accent into Luganda.
In typical upbeat form, she told the camera, “My Luganda is not Luganda-ring very well.” But we’re outside, tuli’waweeruuuu’.” It has been viewed by hundreds of thousands of people, with many copying her and multiplying her fan base tenfold.
Some have criticised her, claiming that she is not cut out for key kingdom roles and that everything she does on social media violates protocol.
Responding to those who questioned her grasp of Luganda, the UK-born Ssangalyambogo responded with an accent that would impress elders in Naggalabi, Budo.
She pointed to the fact that while holding a royal title has many benefits, it also comes with a long list of traditions and protocols that she strives to observe.
She, on the other hand, came out as a courageous royal who isn’t scared to go against the norm.
For her 19th birthday, the princess left many people perplexed when she headed to Instagram and uploaded a photo of an engagement ring.
It was so horrible that the topic shifted to her virginity, with many questioning if she would ever find a suitable husband. She later posted that “Not engaged Just clapping” to quench the fire.
Ssangalyambogo stated that she purchased the ring for herself three years ago in an Argentina market while on a tour with her peers.
In 2018, Buganda Princess Katrina Ssangalyambogo failed to speak appropriate Luganda while speaking on a local TV station, leaving a number of social media users perplexed as to how a full princess could fail to interact in her native language.
Though she was heavily criticised, some sympathetic people, such as Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze, rushed to the princess’ aid, arguing that she should not be criticised but rather protected and supported because she is still a child.
