The list of the world’s richest men isn’t a constant. It can change with every new year that comes for a variety of reasons. Billionaire Bill Gates for instance pledged to give away all his wealth in years to come.

This means we may not see him on the world’s richest men list anymore.

For 2023, here’s a list of the top eighteen richest men in the world. It includes the likes of Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and many more. Let’s get straight into it.

Elon Musk has been on and off the first position quite several times. This is probably due to the fall in the value of shares in Tesla, his electric car business.

Through his electric car company Tesla and his rocket company SpaceX, Elon Musk is aiming to change transport on Earth and in space. His present net worth is $237.7 billion.

In October of last year, Musk acquired Twitter for $44 billion and took over as its owner and CEO.

The current 2nd richest man in the world is none other than Bernard Arnault. 

His vast possessions of more than 70 businesses, including Sephora and Louis Vuitton, have generated a $205 billion net worth for him.

As of today, Jeff Bezos, the founder, and CEO of Amazon, is ranked third richest on the planet. He divorced his wife MacKenzie in 2019 and gave her a portion of his Amazon stock, but he has managed to hold onto his position at the top. The e-commerce behemoth started in 1994 by Jeff Bezos in his Bellevue, Washington, garage, has benefited from the coronavirus pandemic as more people are now shopping online.

Bill Gates has a $122 billion net worth and is one of the co-founders of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. With Paul Allen, Bill Gates co-founded the software giant Microsoft. 

Over time, Gates sold off the majority of his interests in the business, keeping only 1% and investing the rest in stocks and other assets. The largest private philanthropic organization in the world is The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

He is in charge of Berkshire Hathaway, a conglomerate with more than 60 businesses under its umbrella, including the Dairy Queen restaurant, Duracell, and Geico insurance. He is worth $113 billion in total. 

Larry Ellison, $105 billion

With the help of Oracle, the software company he co-founded in 1977, Larry Ellison has amassed a net worth of close to $105 billion. He stepped down as the company’s CEO in 2014 and proceeded to serve as the board chairman and top technical advisor.

Later on, in December 2018, he joined the Tesla board right after purchasing 3 million shares earlier in the year. Lanai, an island in Hawaii, is almost entirely his property.

Steve Ballmer, the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers basketball franchise, is tenth among the world’s wealthiest people with a net worth of $103 billion.

 Ballmer was employee number 30 when he started working at Microsoft in 1980, and he succeeded Bill Gates as CEO in 2000.

Larry Page, the 8th richest man on our list, is the co-founder of Alphabet, the holding company for Google. He has a net worth of $96.1 billion and is pegged as the eighth-richest person in the world.

He has contributed to “Flying Car,” Kitty Hawk, and Opener, three startup companies, in addition to Planetary Resources, a recognized company known for its space exploration.

Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, $93.4 billion

Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the granddaughter of L’Oreal’s founder and one of the world’s wealthiest women, has a 33% share in the world’s largest cosmetics manufacturer.

Sergey Brin, $91.9 billion

Sergey Brin, co-founder and board member of Alphabet, is ranked the ninth richest person in the world with a net worth of $91.9 billion. Together with Larry Page, he co-founded Google in 1998. Google went public in 2004 and changed its name to Alphabet in 2015.

Carlos Slim, $88 billion

Carlos Slim, at number eleven, owns the largest mobile telecom company in Latin America, known as America Movil. Additionally, Carlos owns shares in the New York Times and financial institutions.

He has an estimated net worth of $84.2 billion. Through the investment entity owned by his family, he also has an interest in the Mexican construction industry.

Ambani, who surprisingly is a Stanford dropout, is one of the richest men in Asia. This has been the case for more than ten years now.

Ambani is the founder and CEO of Reliance Industries, known to be the largest oil refinery complex in the world. He is also the owner of the cricket side Mumbai Indians.

Given that Facebook went public in May 2012, his net worth is $77.1 billion, and he currently holds around 15% of the company.

Jim Walton, the youngest son of Walmart founder Sam Walton, owns a 44% stake in Arvest Bank. More than half of the largest retailer in the world is owned by him and the other two inheritors of Walmart.

Rob Walton is the eldest child of Sam Walton, founder of Walmart. He has a $67.4 billion net worth. 

Together with the other two siblings of Walmart’s founder, he and they hold more than half of the company’s stock.
